Aston Martin V12 Vantage S gets a new 7-speed dog-leg manual gearbox for MY2017.
In its bid to lure “discerning enthusiasts”, Aston Martin will be offering a manual transmission with the V12 Vantage S for MY2017. True purists - blessed with a fat bank account – can now book the manual version of the V12-powered supercar, deliveries start in third-quarter of 2016.
As per Aston Martin, the manual transmission brings back the classic tradition and total driver engagement to the range. That is why its seven-speed manual transmission is fitted with a classic dog-leg first gear. The dog-leg configuration is mainly used in high-performance cars where most used gears can be slotted in a double 'H' pattern (2-3, 4-5, and 6-7) so as to clock faster times.
The new manual transmission also features a driver selectable system called AMSHIFT. This uses clutch, gear position and driveshaft sensors to mimic the technique of heel-and-toe downshifts, throttle blipping and changing gear. The system also offers the capability of full-throttle upshifts for maximum smoothness and minimal interruption in acceleration, says Aston Martin.
The 7-speed AMT-equipped Vantage V12 S will continue to be offered alongside the manual version. Power is sourced from a 563bhp/620Nm 6.0-litre V12 petrol engine in both the cases. Irrespective of the gearbox, the Vantage V12 S will hit 0-100km/h within 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 330km/h.
Commenting on the introduction of the manual version, Aston Martin CEO, Dr Andy Palmer said -“Broadening the scope of the V12 Vantage S with a manual transmission option is an indication of our desire to offer the keenest drivers a more analogue and immersive machine to enjoy. I'd like to take this opportunity to reiterate that the manual gearbox remains an integral part of our product plans and will do for many years to come."
