BMW silently introduces the 2016 1 Series in India, available in only one engine and trim
BMW has quietly launched the 2016 model of the 1 Series luxury hatchback in India. It has to be said that BMW has done a great job at updating the second generation 1 Series hatchback with the current face-lift. The 2016 model shares the same underpinnings with the outgoing model but features a heavily modified front and rear design that have made it considerably more modern looking than the earlier model. The face-lift also brings the 2016 BMW 1 Series in line with the company’s current styling language that has given its new cars a sleeker design theme.
Unlike the earlier model that was available in multiple trims and a petrol engine option, the new BMW 1 Series is offered only with a diesel engine and in a single Sport Line trim that is priced at Rs. 29.30 lakh, ex-showroom.
Under that long hood of the 1 Series still rests the 2.0 litre, four cylinder, twin turbocharged diesel engine that is mated to an eight-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox. The engine develops 148bhp of max power @ 4,000 rpm and 320Nm of peak torque between 1,500 rpm to 3,000 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheels like earlier. The car now returns a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 23.26 km/l. The powertrain features idle start / stop and brake energy recuperation as standard.
Equipment highlights include LED head lamps with automatic beam control, automatic head lamps and wipers, dynamic stability control, corner brake control and more.
The 2016 BMW 1 Series is only offered in a choice of Alpine White and Crimson Red exterior shades while a combination of gloss black and matt coral red is the single interior colour option.
