The 2015 Volvo S60 Cross Country that was unveiled by the Swedish carmaker to the world yesterday comes with an increased ground clearance and a few more things.
Volvo yesterday unveiled its latest offering known as the S60 Cross Country ahead of the Detroit Motor Show. As the name suggests, it is a more practical version of its extremely potent S60 sedan.
Commenting on the new launch, Lex Kerssemakers, Senior Vice President Product Strategy and Vehicle Line Management, Volvo Cars said, “We want to further explore the market with our Cross Country brand. We did this back in 1997 with the V70 Cross Country and it led to the birth of a whole new segment. We have included all the capability-driven benefits of the Cross Country brand in this new model, while offering a completely unique expression of adventure and all-road readiness in a distinctly sporty and stylish package.”
Similar to the wagon, the Cross Country will come with an additional 65mm of ground clearance, an all-wheel-drive and optional 19” wheels. The usual front-wheel-drive setup will also be available for selected markets.
Adding to what Mr. Kerssemakers said, Alain Visser, Senior Vice President Sales, Marketing and Customer Service commented, “The S60 Cross Country is the sole contender in the crossover sedan segment. We have identified a clear niche in the market for a more capable sedan with rugged styling cues and a higher stance. The S60 Cross Country will appeal to people that are searching for an exciting and capable sedan, whilst enjoying the clear benefits that a crossover offers.”
Evolved markets like the USA, Canada, Europe and Russia will have the T5 petrol producing 250bhp of maximum power, whereas the other markets will get the usual 2.5-litre five-cylinder diesel engine producing 190bhp.
Volvo promises that the Volvo S60 Cross Country will be available to order by early summer in certain markets.
In India, Volvo sells five cars in the luxury segment – Volvo S80, Volvo S60, Volvo XC60, Volvo V40 Cross Country and Volvo XC90.
