The Royal Enfield Himalayan has not seen a substantial update since its launch in 2016. Now, that Yezdi Adventure is here, will it influence the buyers of the Himalayan towards its self with its modern engine and new platform?
Yezdi has finally made a comeback and the brand has introduced three different products – Roadster, Scrambler and Adventure. The Roadster is more in line with the cruiser motorcycles in the 300-400cc segment. The Scrambler is mainly a rival to the Honda CB350RS and the Jawa Forty-Two.
And then comes the Yezdi Adventure, which, by the name of it, is an adventure motorcycle. Mainly positioned in the same segment as the Royal Enfield Himalayan. The motorcycle will also rival the likes of the 2022 KTM 250 Adventure and the Benelli TRK 251, however, we shall keep the quarter-litres aside for now.
Following a specification comparison of the Yezdi Adventure to the Royal Enfield Himalayan:
Engine
The Yezdi Adventure has borrowed the engine from the Jawa Perak. The power plant is a 334cc single-cylinder unit, which is also on offer in the Yezdi Scrambler and the Yezdi Roadster.
Yezdi Adventure | Royal Enfield Himalayan
Engine | 334cc / Single-Cylinder / Liquid-Cooler | 411cc / Single-Cylinder / Oil-Cooled |
Power | 29.8bhp at 8000rpm | 24.3bhp at 6,500rpm |
Torque | 29.9Nm at 6500rpm | 32Nm at 4,500rpm |
Gearbox | 6-Speed | 5-Speed |
Despite the displacement being on the lower side, compared to the Himalayan, The Yezdi Adventure makes substantially more power. The Himalayan’s engine is a thumper in nature, which effectively means that the Himalayan gets more bottom-end torque, however, the 411cc engine does not rev as much as the Yezdi’s motor.
So far we shall reserve our judgement on which motorcycle has a more suitable delivery for off-roading when we shall compare them in a test soon. The Himalayan features an oil cooler for heat management, whereas the Yezdi Adventure gets liquid cooling.
Cycle parts
Both the motorcycles do not feature up-side down forks assembly, instead, there are conventional telescopic forks on offer. The rear gets a mono-shock on both these motorcycles. Interestingly, the suspension travel of both the motorcycles is the same.
Yezdi Adventure | Royal Enfield Himalayan
Suspension (F) | Conventional Telescopic | Conventional Telescopic |
Travel (F) | 200mm | 200mm |
Suspension (R) | Mono-Shock | Mono-Shock |
Travel (R) | 180mm | 180mm |
Ground Clearance | 220mm | 220mm |
The two motorcycles get spoke wire wheels which is a plus in our books! Also, Yezdi Adventure and the Himalayan get dual-purpose knobby tyres.
Features
The Yezdi Adventure gets an LCD for instrumentation, whereas the Himalayan gets more traditional dials for rev-counter and speedometer. Both the motorcycles feature Bluetooth Connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation.
Between the two, it is only the Yezdi Adventure which offers three ABS modes – Road, Off-road and Rain. However, the Himalayan gets a switchable ABS system. The Himalayan gets a halogen headlamp, whereas, the Yezdi Adventure gets an LED setup.
Pricing
The Himalayan is priced at Rs 2.14 lakh (ex-showroom) while the price of the Yezdi Adventure ranges from Rs 2.09-2.18 lakh (ex-showroom). The Yezdi Adventure is the most expensive in the newly launched Yezdi range of motorcycles.
Royal Enfield is working upon a more affordable Himalayan, which will be called the Scram 411. The upcoming Scram 411 will mainly rival the Yezdi Scrambler which is priced in the range of Rs 2.04-2.10 lakh (ex-showroom).
