Yamaha has unveiled the next-generation model – the NMAX Turbo – to mark its 50 years in Indonesia. The suffix 'Turbo' in the name does not imply that it is a turbocharged version of the NMAX maxi-scooter. In fact, the engine is the same Blue Core 155cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected unit which develops 15bhp and 14Nm of peak torque in non-boost mode. However, this engine in the NMAX Turbo is now mated to an electric CVT gearbox, which, according to Yamaha, offers a sudden surge of acceleration. The technology also comes with two riding modes – T-Mode (commuting) and S-Mode (sport-touring). The T-Mode provides the rider with an additional electric boost to pull off overtaking more conveniently.

Moreover, the Yamaha NMAX Turbo is equipped with a 'Turbo Y-Shift' function, in turn aiding a performance boost using three levels: low, medium, and high. As standard, the NMax Turbo gets dual-channel ABS (anti-lock braking system), traction control, and Y-Connect.

Features-wise, the Yamaha NMAX Turbo offers a TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth and Garmin StreetCross navigation, as well as an LCD speedometer, keyless ignition, and all-LED lighting. In terms of dimensions, the Yamaha NMAX Turbo measures 1,935mm in length, 740mm in width, and 1,200mm in height. A few visual changes include a butterfly-shaped LED headlamp, new split taillamps, and a floating windscreen.

The next-generation Yamaha NMAX Turbo is currently only available in Indonesia. As far as our market goes, there is no word on Yamaha India bringing this model here. Nevertheless, we do have the Aerox 155 ranging between Rs 1.48 lakh and Rs 1.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Plus, Yamaha recently launched the Aerox Version S in India. Priced at Rs 1.51 lakh (ex-showroom), the latest version of the maxi-sports scooter comes with smart key technology that enables keyless operations, thereby delivering enhanced convenience and security to the riders.

The new tech also allows the rider to make use of Yamaha's answer-back system, which activates the indicators and a buzzer sound to help you find your scooter in crowded spaces. The model is exclusively available for purchase at Yamaha's premium Blue Square outlets.
