The newly launched Yamaha Aerox 155 steps into the niche segment of high-capacity touring scooters, which is mainly dominated by the Aprilia SXR 160. We compare the two on paper to find out which one offers more value.

Yamaha India has officially entered the high-capacity scooter segment with the launch of the Aerox 155 at Rs 1.29 lakh (ex-showroom). Until now, the 150cc scooter segment mainly had scooters like the Aprilia SR 160, Vespa SXL 150, and Aprilia SXR 160, the latest of which is the Aprilia SXR 160 –it's also the main rival to the new Yamaha Aerox 155.

The Aerox 155 gets 14-inch wheels on both ends, which are 2-inch larger than those of the SXR 160. The Aerox 155's rear tyre is wider than its front one, while the SXR 160's both tyres are the same in size.

Features

Both scooters have more equipment to offer than some 150cc class motorcycles. Both pack an all-LED headlamp assembly, an all-digital instrument cluster, and Bluetooth connected features. However, the Bluetooth connected tech on the Aprilia is an optional extra, while Yamaha offers it as standard equipment. The Aprilia SXR 160 gets a larger fuel tank of 7 litres, whereas the Yamaha Aerox 155 gets a smaller fuel tank, which can hold up to 5.5 litres.

Pricing

The Aprilia SXR 160 is priced at Rs 1.27 lakh (ex-showroom). The Yamaha Aerox 155, on the other hand, demands Rs 1.29 lakh (ex-showroom). The Japanese scooter is priced marginally higher than the already expensive SXR 160; however, it seems correctly priced for what it has to offer. The Yamaha offers more power, more (standard) equipment, and better cycle parts.
