Scooters are a preferred mode of transportation in India, owing to their ease of use, excellent fuel efficiency, and ability to navigate heavy traffic. They are especially popular among urban families due to their cost-effectiveness. The scooter market in India is anticipated to grow in 2025 with the arrival of new and updated models. Here’s a list of the top 5 scooters expected to hit the Indian market soon.

Hero Destini 125

Hero MotoCorp unveiled the updated Destini 125 for India in September 2024. While the company has not yet confirmed anything, the scooter is expected to be launched at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Expo. The revised Hero Destini 125 has three variants—VX, ZX, and ZX+—and has seven colour options. It features a metal front fender, relocated turn indicators, an H-shaped LED daytime running light, a projector LED headlamp, and a compact LED taillight. Other highlights include a wider 100/80-12 rear tyre larger 12-inch machine-finished alloy wheels (exclusively on the ZX+ variant), and an increased wheelbase (57mm).

The new model offers the best ground clearance in its segment at 785mm, along with a 5-litre fuel tank and a spacious 19-litre under-seat compartment for added practicality. Mechanically, the new Destini 125 keeps the 124.6cc, single-cylinder engine with 9bhp and 10.4Nm of torque, but features a revised chassis for improved handling. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 80,000 to Rs 85,000 (ex-showroom).

Hero Xoom 125R

The Hero Xoom 125R, unveiled by Hero MotoCorp at EICMA 2023, is set to launch in India sometime next year. The upcoming 125cc scooter has been frequently spotted on test rides, featuring an aggressive LED headlamp, similar to the one found on the Hero Xtreme 125R. It includes a sleek tail design with a split LED light arrangement, a split grab rail, and a sizeable pillion footrest plate for added comfort. The Xoom 125R will be propelled by the same 124.6cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine as the improved Destini 125. Hero MotoCorp could tweak this configuration for the more performance-focused Xoom, but there is no confirmation as of now.

Features-wise, the Xoom 125R will come equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth connectivity, and LED indicators. It will likely cost between Rs 80,000 and Rs 90,000 (ex-showroom).

Honda Activa e

Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India is set to announce the pricing for the electric Activa next year, with bookings opening on January 1. In terms of design, the electric Activa departs from the traditional ICE version, adopting a more modern, minimalist style. It features a central LED headlamp on the apron, flanked by turn indicators, and an LED DRL. The scooter also boasts a compact floorboard, a long seat, and an ‘Activa e’ badge integrated into the taillamp. One of its key highlights is the innovative swappable battery system for added convenience.

The Activa e runs on a direct-drive PMSM motor with a peak output of 8bhp and a maximum torque of 22Nm. It comes with two 1.5kWh battery packs for a total capacity of 3kWh. The e-scooter can reach a maximum speed of 80km/h with this configuration, and accelerate from 0 to 60km/h in 7.3 seconds. On a single charge, it has a 102-kilometre range. Additionally, the scooter has three riding modes: Sport, Standard, and Econ. Other prominent highlights include a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster, an H-Smart key system, and all LED lighting. Price-wise, the electric Activa is likely to fetch somewhere around Rs 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom).

Honda QC1

Another notable electric scooter from Honda, the QC1, is designed primarily for short-distance travel and is equipped with a fixed battery system. It has an in-wheel electric motor that delivers 77Nm of peak torque and 2.4bhp of maximum power. The scooter boasts a 1.5kWh battery, offering a range of 80 kilometres per charge. Riders can choose between two modes: Standard and Econ, to suit different riding preferences.

The QC1 incorporates many design features from the electric Activa, including a flat floorboard, a complete digital display, a wide, contoured seat, and all-LED lighting. However, it boasts a simpler front design, lacking the LED Daytime Running Light. The expected price of the QC1 is Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hero Xoom 160

Hero’s first-ever maxi-scooter, the Xoom 160, features split LED headlights, a compact beak, and a large windscreen, all contributing to its ADV-inspired look. From a side profile, the scooter appears long and wide, a result of its extended wheelbase and central spine that houses the fuel tank. The Hero Xoom 160 will be packed with numerous features such as keyless ignition, remote seat opening, LED lighting, and a ‘smart find’ function, enabling you to locate the scooter in a parking area with just a button press on the key fob.
