Triumph Street Scrambler is the off-road version of the entry-level Bonneville Street Twin.
Triumph Motorcycles India is all set to add another iteration of the Bonneville in our market. Come August 24, 2017, the British motorcycle maker will launch the Street Scrambler in the country. The launch of the Street Scrambler will make the Bonneville range a six model strong line-up here.
Showcased first at the 2016 EICMA show in Milan, the Street Scrambler is based on the Street Twin. Compared to the Street Twin, the Scrambler version comes with a number of modifications so as to justify its off-road cred. You’ll notice it has bigger and meatier 19-inch front tyre and 17-inch rear tyre that come shod on spoke wheels – the Street Twin comes with 17-inch alloy wheels. Then, there’s a high-mounted twin-pipe exhaust system, which looks kind of cool. The handlebar is higher and wider, too. The chassis has been tweaked to take on off-road conditions while the motorcycle also comes with longer suspension travel.
The rest of the package remains more or less the same. It gets the same 900cc parallel-twin engine that develops 54bhp@5,900rpm and 80Nm of torque at 3,200rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed transmission. The Street Scrambler also gets ride-by-wire throttle, switchable traction control and ABS, and a torque assist clutch.
Since the Street Scrambler comes with a lot of off-road goodies over the road-going Street Twin, expect it to carry a slightly higher price tag – our guess is that it’ll be priced around Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom).
