Inspired from the first Speed Twin that came into production in 1939, this new-generation model is powered by a 1200cc parallel-Twin motor and features ride-by-wire tech, three riding modes and more.
The Street Twin and Bonnie range have been the best-selling for Triumph since it’s launch in India. The company has now expanded the range and brought in the more powerful Speed Twin. This new offering is now on sale at Rs 9.46 lakh, ex-showroom.
The Speed Twin made its global debut in December 2018, and just 4 months into its global launch Triumph has brought it here. This makes it the 12th model in the modern-classic range.
The Triumph Speed Twin sports the same powerplant as the Thruxton and the Bonneville T120. The 1200cc parallel-Twin pushes 96bhp @ 6,750rpm and 112Nm @ 4,950rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox as is the case with the Bonneville Speedmaster, Thruxton, Bonneville Bobber that use the same powertrain. The motorcycle comes with three riding modes - Rain, Road and Sport. Stopping power is provided by 305mm twin disc brakes up front with Brembo callipers while the rear wheel is taken care of by a 220mm disc brake with Nissin callipers.
Interestingly, Triumph has employed weight saving measures and shed 10kg over the Thruxton. In fact, it even weighs lesser than the smaller Street Twin.
In regards to features, the Speed Twin comes with ABS, switchable traction control, torque assisted clutch, LED lights, USB charging socket for accessories and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. Triumph also has a range of 80 accessories on offer for the new Speed Twin.
