Kinetic Green has launched the iconic Luna moped in India, but this time, in an electric avatar. With this, the Luna moniker which Kinetic Engineering marketed in the 1980s, has been brought back to life. It carries an ex-showroom starting price tag of Rs 69,990 for the X1 variant. A more expensive X2 variant, which retails for Rs 74,990 (ex-showroom), has been introduced by the maker as well. For the uninitiated, the original Luna was a simple, no-frills moped, made to get people from one place to another with the least hassle. On top of that, it was lightweight and small, making it incredibly simple to ride, even for inexperienced riders. The cost of the Luna moped contributed to its popularity by making it affordable for a sizable portion of Indian consumers. Meanwhile, the brand-new model returns with a redesigned styling and function, catering to both commercial and consumer needs. Here's everything you need to know about the new electric Luna.
Kinetic Green E-Luna: Design and Colour Options Details
On the design front, the Kinetic Green E-Luna sports halogen indicators and a round halogen headlight enclosed in a square nacelle. Furthermore, the model is slim and straightforward in keeping with the original's practical design. The 16-inch wire-spoke wheels of the electric moped are shod with tube-style tyres. The E-Luna is accessible for all due to its 1,335mm wheelbase and 760mm seat height. Furthermore, the ground clearance of the moped stands at 170mm. A detachable pillion seat that doubles as a luggage carrier is included with the model. Coming to the colour options, the E-Luna from Kinetic can be had in five shades - Mulberry Red, Ocean Blue, Pearl Yellow, Sparkling Green, and Night Star Black.
Kinetic Green E-Luna: Battery Pack
Mechanically, the moped is propelled by a 2.95bhp hub motor, capable of generating a peak torque output of 22Nm. The vehicle's maximum speed is over 50km/h. Additionally, a 2kWh battery pack is used in conjunction with the motor, offering a range of 110-kilometre on a single charge. A full charge using a portable charger takes 4 hours.
Kinetic Green E-Luna: Features and Hardware Components
In terms of features, the electric two-wheeler comes with a digital instrument cluster and the KG Connect app, which lets users monitor the scooter's performance. Four riding modes are also available: Eco, City, Speed, and Sport. In addition, there is a side-stand sensor, front leg guard, saree guard, safety lock, bag hook, and a USB charging port.
Coming to the hardware components of the vehicle, dual shock absorbers at the back and a hooded telescopic front fork will take care of the suspension chores on the Kinetic E-Luna. Along with a combined braking system as standard, the model has drum brakes on both ends.
Kinetic Green E-Luna: Bookings and Competition Check
The manufacturer started taking pre-orders for the model on 26 January for a token amount of Rs 500. The new E-Luna can be booked either from an authorised dealership or online via the brand's official website. It is also available for purchase on e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart. Launched at an ex-showroom starting cost of Rs 69,990, the EV competes against the likes of the Gogoro Crossover, the Okinawa Dual 100, the TVS XL 100, and the Odysse Trot.
The E-Luna, which Kinetic Green believes will meet passenger and last-mile delivery demands and has the potential to be a "multipurpose vehicle," would be manufactured with an investment of Rs 100 crore. According to Sulajja Firodia Motwani, Founder and CEO, of Kinetic Green, Tier II and III cities as well as smaller communities are transitioning to electric vehicles (EVs), and the e-Luna is appropriate for use across the nation.
