The BS-VI compliant versions of the Suzuki Gixxer and Gixxer SF motorcycles receive a sharp price hike and a small drop in power and torque.
Suzuki Motorcycle India has launched the BS-VI versions of the Gixxer and Gixxer SF in the country. The updated Gixxer is priced at Rs 1.12 lakh (ex-showroom) while the BS-VI compliant version of the fully-faired Gixxer SF is now priced at Rs 1.22 lakh (ex-showroom). The Gixxer SF MotoGP edition is priced at Rs 1.23 lakh (ex-showroom).
Surprisingly, all three bikes see a sharp price hike of around Rs 12,000 over the outgoing BS-IV versions. In Gixxer’s case, the increase in price is quite significant because it was only in July 2019 when the bike received a makeover, along with the introduction of fuel injection, and even at that time, its price went up by Rs 12,000.
Mechanically, both the Gixxer and Gixxer SF BS-VI models get the same 155cc single-cylinder, albeit the engine now meets the stricter emission norms. The engine now produces 13.4bhp and 13.8Nm of torque – both power and torque are down by 0.5bhp and 0.2Nm from the BS-IV version. Both the bikes continue to come with a 5-speed gearbox. Other than the BS-VI upgrade, the Gixxer and Gixxer SF are unchanged from their respective BS-IV versions.
While the Gixxer and Gixxer SF are very capable products in the 150-200cc segment, there’s no denying that they’ve gotten really expensive now, thanks to back to back price hikes in a span of just 9 months! This is particularly evident in Gixxer’s case when you compare it with its rivals – the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V BS6 (with rear disc) is priced at Rs 1.04 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Yamaha FZ-FI BS6 is priced even lower at Rs 99,200 (ex-showroom).
