Segway has taken the wraps off the Apex H2 Hydrogen Electric motorcycle concept, which is based on the Apex concept showcased in 2019. With 79bhp on offer, the Apex H2 can dismiss the 0 – 100km/h sprint in under 4 seconds.
Segway as a brand has grown beyond just two-wheeled means of personal mobility. Its latest concept, the Apex H2, is a glimpse of what could be the future of motorcycling, and it is scheduled to go on sale globally in 2023.
The Segway Apex H2 sports a muscular design, with most of its bodywork in the centre. The sleek headlamps, taillamps, floating seat section, twin single-sided swing arms, and the completely covered ‘engine’ area make it look properly futuristic. But the Apex H2 is more than just a Tron-like motorcycle.
Powering the Apex H2 is a unique hydrogen-electric powertrain. Hydrogen is converted into electrical energy via a special fuel cell. To ensure adequate safety, hydrogen is stored in solid alloys, which can be easily swapped to refuel. With 79bhp on offer, the motorcycle takes less than 4 seconds to dismiss the 0 – 100km/h milestone. The Apex H2 can record a top speed of 150km/h.
Segway revealed the first Apex motorcycle concept in December 2019. Because of the global pandemic, Segway has only managed to develop the concept so far. That said, the production model is expected to hit the road by 2023 at a price of CNY 69,999, which is around Rs 7.84 lakh.
