There have been a lot of electric two-wheeler launches so far this year, some of which can go about 70-80 kilometres in a single charge. Even then, range anxiety is very much real and one of the biggest holdups in going electric.
Pune-based Polarity Smart Bikes have a rather unique interpretation of electric bikes and a solution to range anxiety as well. The company showcased two new models – Sport and Executive – each of which will go on sale in three variants. The most affordable Polarity offering is the E1K (from the Executive range) which is priced at Rs 38,000. The lowest-spec version of the Sports model – the S1K demands Rs 40,000. Both prices ex-showroom. Here’s a full price list of all Polarity products.

All six e-bikes will have a riding range of over 80 kilometres in a single charge. The most interesting aspect of these e-bikes, however, is that they are pedal assisted as well, in case you run out of charge. The e-bikes features a hub mounted Brushless DC Motor that will be powered by a range of battery options. The Sport range of e-bikes claim a top-speed of 45km/h, 70km/h and 100km/h respectively. Similarly, the Executive range can go up to 40km/h, 60km/h and 80km/h. The top-spec S3K and E3K trims come equipped with GPS and Bluetooth connectivity. Polarity will offer a lot of customisation options for each of these bikes.
With the exception of the battery cells, controller and the motor, all components will be manufactured locally. The company currently has a production capacity of 15,000 units a year. The brand has already commenced bookings of the e-bikes and deliveries are expected to commence in the first quarter of 2020.
