Ola Electric will introduce its much-awaited Gen 3 platform in India on January 31, 2025, marking a big upgrade from the Gen 2 models. The new Gen 3 scooters claim to offer a major boost in performance, an array of exciting new features, and an improved design. While official details are still under wraps, the first Gen 3 scooter is expected to hit the Indian market by March 2025. The S1 range of scooters is expected to be the first to feature the new Gen 3 platform. While specifics about this next-gen line of Ola e-scooters are still scarce, here’s a glimpse of the upcoming third-generation platform.
Ola Gen 3 Platform: Key Highlights
Ola is set to transform the riding experience with its next-gen platform, which includes an advanced battery, a powerful motor, and a smarter control unit. The battery is now part of the scooter’s frame, improving both impact resistance and durability. The biggest innovation, however, is the use of ‘Bharat Cells, a new, indigenously developed battery with much higher energy density than the current 2170 cells. This promises to significantly boost range and performance.

At the core of the powertrain is a completely new motor, as Ola transitions from traditional permanent magnet motors to an advanced magnetised electrical coil design. This innovative shift boosts thermal efficiency, resulting in a quicker, more responsive ride. The motor control unit (MCU) is now directly integrated into the motor, while the electric control units, MCU, and battery management system are seamlessly merged into a single chip, enhancing efficiency and creating a more compact system overall.
Ola Gen 3 Scooters: What to Expect?
Apart from the major updates under the hood, the scooters based on the Gen 3 platform are expected to maintain the familiar Ola design, with some structural refinements. In terms of features, the Gen 3 range will keep some elements from the current models but will introduce a new, upgraded TFT screen, along with a significant software overhaul.
