Yamaha launches the updated R15 V4 in the country, with upside-down front forks, new styling, and more features.  The company has also introduced the R15 M version of the motorcycle, which gets unique cosmetic updates.

After teasing it for months, Yamaha Motor India has finally launched the new R15 V4.0 and R15 M in the country. Updates include new styling and the addition of upside-down front forks, along with a couple of new features and more equipment than the outgoing R15 V3.0. The R15 V4.0 carries a starting price of Rs 1.68 lakh (ex-showroom), which means a generous price hike of around Rs 10,000. The R15 M, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 1.78 lakh (ex-showroom).

On the design front, the new R15 takes a giant leap forward, as its styling is now in line with the company’s flagship YZF-R1 superbike. The front-end is completely new, featuring sleek LED DRLs and a LED projector lamp, flanked by ‘M’ air-ducts. The exhaust is different too, and while the taillights are similar, the rear section looks sharper now. The new R15 comes in three colours: Racing Blue, Dark Knight, and Metallic Red. And the M derivative is available in special Metallic Grey and Monster Energy MotoGP livery. There are more ways to differentiate the R15 M from its lesser siblings – it gets a carbon-like rear seat cowl, golden front brake calliper, and anodized blue fork caps.

In addition to the cosmetic updates, the new R15 versions get a revised LCD instrument cluster with Track and Street mode – these are display modes and not riding modes. Bluetooth connectivity is also a part of the package.

For the first time in India, Yamaha is offering the R15 with upside-down front forks. These were offered with the earlier version in global markets but were given a miss when Yamaha launched the R15 V3.0 in India. Additionally, all variants of the R15 are equipped with a traction control system. A quick-shifter is standard fitment on the R15 M and R15 V4.0 Racing Blue versions.

The engine is unchanged – it’s the same liquid-cooled 155cc single-cylinder engine with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation). It develops 18.1bhp @ 10,000rpm and 14.2Nm @ 7,500rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and gets an assist-and-slipper clutch.

Here are the prices (ex-showroom) of the new R15 V4.0 and R15 M:

R15 V4 Metallic Red: Rs 1.68 lakh

R15 V4 Dark Night: Rs 1.69 lakh

R15 V4 Racing Blue: Rs 1.73 lakh

R15 M: 1.78 lakh

Along with the 2021 Yamaha R15 V4.0 and R15 M, Yamaha has also launched the all-new Aerox 155 maxi-scooter, which features the same 155cc engine as the R15.
