Jawa has teased the arrival of its new neo-classic offering – the 42, which it will introduce on September 3 in India. Compared to the existing 42 that Jawa launched some time ago, the upcoming Jawa 42 will be all-new and is expected to receive new colour options and improved styling to make it stand out. The last update brought in engine tweaks and a more comfortable seat.
While the current Jawa 42 uses a J-Panther 294.72cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with 27bhp and 26.84Nm of peak torque, the new Jawa 42 is expected to get a 334cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that sees duty in the Jawa 350. In the Jawa 350, the 334cc Alpha-2 engine makes 22.2bhp at 7,000rpm and 28.2Nm of peak torque at 5,000rpm, and transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed unit. The main frame will likely be different too. The Jawa 42 currently offers a double cradle tubular frame.

A digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity is also likely to be offered. Like the current Jawa 42, the new iteration should come with a choice of either spoked or alloy wheels, accompanied by ABS. We expect more details to be revealed in due course. Though the price announcement is some time away, Jawa could put the new 42 in the ballpark of Rs 2 lakh–Rs 2.10 lakh (ex-showroom).
Existing Jawa 42: Variants, Price
The current iteration of the Jawa 42 is available in three configurations – spoked wheels with single-channel ABS; spoked wheels with dual-channel ABS; and alloy wheels with dual-channel ABS. The Jawa 42 lineup starts with the base Vega White (Single channel ABS, Spoked wheels) variant at Rs 1.73 lakh (ex-showroom), while the mid- and top-spec variants get dual-channel ABS. The top-spec variants are the only ones to come with alloy wheels and a fully digital instrument console. They are priced at Rs 1.98 lakh (ex-showroom).
