Bajaj launched the most powerful Pulsar -- RS 200 -- at Rs 1.30 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi, which makes it quite a pocket friendly buy for enthusiasts. This will definitely make the competition -- the Yamaha YZF-R15 and the Honda CBR150R -- nervous.
The RS 200 is powered by 199.5cc engine, same as the 200 NS, but its output is 24bhp, 1 bhp more than NS, and it now comes with fuel injection. The RS is, therefore, faster and has a top speed of 141 kph, while the NS' 135 kph. According to Bajaj, apart from one additional pony, the power boost is all thanks to the improved aerodynamics.
This muscular Pulsar gets many features like the HD focus twin projector headlights, LED tail lamps, which resemble a bull's horns, and a beautifully carved exhaust. In terms of safety, the RS gets bigger 300mm front disc brakes compare to the NS' 280mm ones and has ABS as an optional feature.
For better ride quality and handling, the RS is equipped with Nitrox mono shock absorber with Canister for carpeting potholes and the perimetre frame makes it agile, especially when it encounters tricky hairpins. With additional equipment and fairing, the RS is 20kgs heavier than the NS, 165kg to be precise. The RS is available in two variants: Non ABS is for Rs 1.18 lakh, while the ABS will cost Rs 1.30 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi).
Speaking on the launch Mr. Eric Vas, President - Motorcycle Business, Bajaj Auto Ltd said, “The Sports segment in India is poised for rapid growth driven by evolving customer preferences. There is a large number consumers who expect true track performance from their bikes. The new Pulsar RS 200 now enters the Super Sports segment with aerodynamically tested fairings, superior chassis and engine technology to deliver adrenaline pumping performance be it on tracks or real roads.”
He added, “We are already market and image leaders by far in the sports segment and with the launch of Pulsar RS 200 look forward to gaining leadership in the Super Sports segment as well.”
