In September last year, BMW Motorrad revealed the much-anticipated R 1300 GS. After almost six months since its debut, the brand is gearing up to launch the R 1250 GS's replacement in India as well. The bike is anticipated to arrive on Indian shores in the coming weeks with improved underpinnings, cutting-edge electronics, a more potent engine, new styling, and more amenities. Comparing the R 1300 GS to the R 1250 GS, the former appears more aggressive and sleeker. It has a flatter fuel tank and a more compact appearance. The X-shaped matrix LED headlamp with four DRLs is a standout element. Like the asymmetric headlight on the R 1250 GS, it looks radical and fits the bill for being out of the ordinary. Read on to learn more about the upcoming model.
BMW R 1300 GS: Engine Specs
The new BMW R 1300 GS is powered by an air and liquid-cooled 1,300cc boxer engine. Compared to the previous BMW R 1250 GS, which produced 134bhp and 143Nm of torque, the new unit develops 149Nm at 6,500rpm and 143bhp of maximum power at 7,750rpm. Because of its larger bore and longer stroke, bigger valves, and reworked cams with BMW's ShiftCam technology, the motor is more fuel efficient, generates greater torque under heavy load, and cruises smoother. A six-speed gearbox is positioned beneath the engine. As a result, the new model has less weight, a shorter transmission shaft, and a mass that is closer to its centre of gravity. At 237 kg, the bike weighs 12 kg less than its predecessor.
BMW R 1300 GS: Features
The model boasts a broad feature set and the latest technology to enhance rider convenience and safety. The motorcycle will come equipped with keyless ignition, a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT display packed with connected features, an upgraded version of BMW's Dynamic ESA, and more. There are four standard riding modes – Rain, Road, Eco, and Enduro. Other standard features from BMW Motorrad include a ride-off assistant, USB port, additional 12 V, engine drag torque control, and full integral ABS Pro. Radar-based technologies such as adaptive cruise control, front collision warning, lane change warning, and active cruise control are available if you choose the riding assistant package.
BMW R 1300 GS: Cycle Parts
The BMW R 1300 GS sits on a newly designed, optimally spaced, and stiffened sheet metal shell main frame. The back sub-frame is made of die-cast aluminum. As a result, the bike is lighter and has improved rigidity and control, particularly in off-road situations. The ADV's suspension has also been updated, with a new EVO paralever unit at the back and an EVO telelever unit up front. BMW also provides an optional dynamics suspension, allowing for on-the-go adjustments to the spring preload and damping. Additionally, the optional DSA has an adjustable seat height that dynamically changes the saddle height when riding slowly or at a stop.
BMW R 1300 GS: Expected Price and Rivals
Three variants of the R 1300 GS are available globally: Option 719 Tramuntana, GS Trophy, and Triple Black. Expect the same options to be introduced in India as well. It seems likely that the BMW R 1300 GS will retail for between Rs 22 lakh and Rs 23 lakh (ex-showroom). For reference, the R 1300 GS begins at Euro 18,465 (about Rs 16 lakh) in the UK. Upon launch in India, it will go up against the Honda Africa Twin, Harley-Davidson Pan-America 1250, Triumph Tiger 1200, and the Ducati Multistrada V4.
