The Chetak electric scooter, launched by Bajaj in 2020, initially struggled to gain traction in the market. However, its popularity has grown significantly since last year, and it is now a strong contender for the second spot in the electric two-wheeler segment. According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), more than 3 lakh units of the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter have been sold in India to date.
To capitalise on this success, Bajaj is set to introduce the updated Chetak on December 20. The revamp is aimed at improving the scooter’s functionality for everyday riders. A key update aspect focuses on increasing storage capacity, a feature where competing models like the Ather Rizta, Ola S1, and TVS iQube currently hold an edge. To address this, Bajaj has reimagined the Chetak’s design, relocating the battery beneath the footboard. This redesign optimises the scooter's structure and creates additional space for carrying belongings, making it a more practical option for daily commuting.

Bajaj Chetak Electric: Expected Updates
Bajaj rolled out a new display, upgraded connectivity features, and improved chassis for the e-scooter this year. The forthcoming model will likely build on these enhancements, offering riders a more practical experience. While specific details are still under wraps, a significant change is anticipated in the form of increased under-seat storage.
At present, the EV provides just 21 litres of storage, which is relatively small compared to its rivals. This redesign is expected to address the growing demand for more functional storage space in electric scooters. The upcoming Chetak is also likely to come with a revamped battery pack, potentially boosting its range while maintaining similar capacity to the current model, which offers between 123 km and 137 km. The new version is expected to extend this range, making it a more attractive option for consumers seeking longer-range electric scooters.
The price of the current-gen Bajaj Chetak begins at Rs 95,998 and goes up to Rs 1.29 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom). The upcoming version is likely to be priced at a premium.

Domestic sales declined by 5 per cent in the commercial vehicle segment, with 37,243 units sold compared to 39,147 units last year. However, export sales improved by 10 per cent, rising to 16,321 units from 14,808 units. Despite this export growth, total commercial vehicle sales dipped marginally by 1%, reaching 53,564 units from 53,955 units.
Combining both segments, Bajaj Auto’s total vehicle sales in November 2024 stood at approximately 4.22 lakh units, reflecting a 5 per cent growth from 4.03 lakh units sold during the same period last year. A notable 24 per cent rise in exports, from around 1.45 lakh units to 1.81 lakh units, played a critical role in offsetting the 7 per cent decline in domestic sales, which fell from 2.58 lakh units to 2.41 lakh units.
