With the launch of the entry-level 450S and the updated 450X, Ather Energy has enhanced its 450 range in response to significant revisions to the FAME-II subsidy scheme. The 450S is now the most economical Ather model available, with a price tag of Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom). Following this launch, the homegrown manufacturer hopes to gain a larger share of the Indian market for electric two-wheelers. For the uninitiated, details like the top speed and range of the newly launched entry-level electric scooter were disclosed earlier on the company's official website. The 450S boasts a top speed of 90km/h and an IDC range of 115-kilometre. The Ola S1 Air, the most affordable electric scooter from Ola Electric will compete with it in the Indian market. The bookings for the 450S e-scooter are currently underway for a token amount of Rs 2,500. The deliveries for the same will begin on August 25.

Ather 450S, Updated 450X: Battery Pack and Range
Coming to the specifications of the e-scooter, the Ather 450S has the same 2.9kWh lithium-ion battery as the 450 Plus, which was discontinued earlier. This battery pack is enough to provide the vehicle with an IDC (Indian Driving Conditions) range of 115-kilometre on a single charge. Similar to the 450X and the 450X Pro Pack models, the new base 450S variant will have a top speed of 90km/h. The electric motor offers a peak torque output of 26Nm and a maximum power of 8.58bhp. Furthermore, it goes from 0 to 40km/h in 3.9 seconds.
Meanwhile, a few modifications have also been made to the 450X. The 450X now has a smaller, 2.9kWh battery and now starts at Rs 1.38 lakh for the Core variant and goes up to Rs 1.53 lakh for the Pro variant. Prices are ex-showroom. It has a new park assist switch that is located on the right handlebar. Real-world range estimates for the 450X (2.9kWh) correspond to those for the 450S; the sole distinction is that the 450X additionally has Warp mode, which reduces the range to 60-kilometre. The certified range for the all-new 450X is 111-kilometre. Notably, Ather is going to launch the 3.7kWh version of the 450X on August 23.
The 2.9kWh 450S and 450X, according to Ather, will require more than 8 and a half hours to fully charge. All scooters will come equipped with a 350-watt charger, but customers will also be able to add a 750-watt charger as an extra accessory.
Ather 450S: Design and Hardware Details
The new 450S has a sleek and modern appearance. It possesses a futuristic appearance because of its streamlined shape and sharp lines. Additionally, its riding ergonomics are well-designed to ensure a comfortable riding experience throughout lengthy travels.
The scooter will include front forks and a rear mono-shock for suspension duties. A rear disc brake with a belt drive will also be available.
Ather 450S, Updated 450X: Features
The 7.0-inch touchscreen from the 450X is gone, and in its stead is a 7.0-inch "Deepview" digital cluster, which is a definite difference from the 450S. The 450S will come in Pro form with multipoint Bluetooth connectivity, auto-hold, MapMyIndia-powered turn-by-turn navigation, and four ride modes (SmartEco, Eco, Ride, and Sport; there are no ride modes for the Core version). On the digital dashboard of the 450S, features are accessed via a joystick.
A number of additional features, such as "Fall Safe" (automatic motor cut-off when a scooter falls), an emergency stop signal, coasting regen (which extends range by up to 7%), a revised mud flap, a new switchgear with two new switches, and an improved intercity travel planner are also new to the 450 line-up.

Ather 450S: Price and Rivals
The entry-level model of the 450 lineup, the 450S, will be sold in India at a starting price of Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom). Speaking of the market rivals, it will face competition from the likes of the Ola S1 Air, the TVS iQube S, and the Bajaj Chetak, among others.
