The 400cc motorcycle segment has become quite popular in the Indian market. And the recent introduction of several brand-new motorcycles in this segment has only increased its popularity. These models offer a blend of comfort and high-performance riding experience, making them highly desirable. So, if you are looking to buy your next motorcycle, here's a comprehensive list of the most affordable 400cc offerings currently on sale in the country.
Hero Mavrick 440
The Hero Mavrick 440 is the newest entrant in the segment. Launched just a few days ago, its prices range from Rs 1.99 lakh to Rs 2.24 lakh (ex-showroom). The bike is based on the Harley-Davidson X440 and is offered in three variants – Base, Mid, and Top. The first middleweight motorcycle from Hero, it features a muscular fuel tank, circular LED headlamps and DRLs, and metallic accents on various parts, such as the front fender and shrouds, along with a wide handlebar and a unique exhaust design.
Apart from the X440, the immediate rivals of the newly launched model in India include the Triumph Speed 400, Jawa 350, Honda CB350, and the Royal Enfield Classic 350. It is powered by a single-cylinder 440cc oil-cooled engine, which is coupled to a six-speed transmission and a slip-and-assist clutch. The motor churns out 27bhp of maximum power at 6,000rpm and 36Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm.
Royal Enfield Scram 411
Next, we have the Scram 411 from Royal Enfield, which comes with an ex-showroom starting price of Rs 2.06 lakh (base-spec model). Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line version carries a price tag of Rs 2.12 lakh. Coming to the mechanical specifications of the bike, it is propelled by a 411cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine, which is capable of producing 24.3bhp of maximum power at 6,500rpm and 32Nm of peak torque at 4,250rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox.
The Scram 411 comes with features like a halogen headlamp, dual-channel ABS, and a digital instrument panel. It also gets Bluetooth connectivity and a Tripper Navigation pod as options. With a few notable differences, the Scram 411's bodywork is very identical to the Royal Enfield Himalayan. It has a small fuel tank, a sloped tail section, and a single-piece saddle.
Bajaj Dominar 400
Available at a starting price of Rs 2.30 lakh (ex-showroom), the Bajaj Dominar 400 is powered by a 373.3cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled unit, which is paired with a six-speed gearbox and delivers 39.45bhp of maximum power at 8,800rpm and 35Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm.
The bike gets a luggage carrier, a pillion backrest, hand guards, and a tall visor, all factory-installed. It also benefits from revised leg guards, saddle supports, and an engine bash plate with an integrated metal skid plate. Additionally, it also has a USB charging port and a navigation port.
Triumph Speed 400
Fourth on the list is one of the most popular launches from last year, the Triumph Speed 400. This roadster is manufactured in collaboration with Bajaj Auto and carries an ex-showroom price of Rs 2.33 lakh. The Speed 400 is powered by a 398cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, which produces 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm. A six-speed gearbox, with a slip and assist clutch, is used for transmission duties.
The bike comes with features, such as switchable traction control, dual-channel ABS, all-LED lighting, a semi-digital instrument panel, ride-by-wire throttle, and an anti-theft immobiliser. The bike's instrument cluster has a large analogue speedometer, LCD screen, tachometer, fuel gauge, and gear indicator. The suspension system consists of 43mm upside-down large piston front forks and a rear mono-shock with preload adjustment. The front brake unit includes a 300mm single disc with a four-piston radial calliper, while the rear braking system comprises a 230mm single rotor with a two-piston fixed calliper.
Harley-Davidson X440
The X440 from Harley-Davidson is powered by a 440cc air/oil-cooled engine, which produces a maximum torque of 38Nm at 4,000rpm and a peak power output of 27bhp at 6,000rpm. This single-cylinder engine is coupled to a six-speed gearbox. The bike is available in three variants – Denim, Vivid, and S, which cost Rs 2.40 lakh, Rs 2.60 lakh, and Rs 2.80 lakh, respectively. All prices are ex-showroom.
The base Denim model comes with wire-spoke wheels, a TFT screen, an LED headlamp, and minimal badging. The mid-range Vivid variant, on the other hand, features alloy wheels and dual-tone colour options. The top-of-the-line S gets machined engine cooling fins, 3D badging, diamond-cut alloy wheels, and a colour TFT panel with Bluetooth connectivity for navigation and notifications. A USB charging port is standard on all models.
