Now, enthusiasts can experience the 3.7km long Madras Motor Race Track at pocket-friendly prices.
There are many automotive enthusiasts in India who would love to drive or ride around a racetrack just for kicks. A racetrack provides a challenging environment for anyone willing to put their driving or riding skills at test. However, such opportunities do not come easy in India, where motorsport is still a niche.
The Madras Motor Sports Club (MMSC) wants to change this, and so, beginning October 29, 2017, it will organise track days at the Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT) which will allow anyone to experience the circuit. To enter, all you need is a valid driver’s or a competition license to rent the race-spec car or motorcycle for a total of 10 laps.
Rent amount varies from Rs. 1,000 - 1,500 for a track-spec Honda CBR150R motorcycle, and Rs. 7,500 - 9,000 for a car, which includes either a LGB Formula 1300 single seat race car, or Volkswagen Polo R Cup version.
Speaking on this initiative, MMSC Vice President, Vicky Chandhok said, "There are a lot of people who enjoy motorsports and wish to drive race cars or motorcycles on a race track, but they don't want to race professionally. So those who want to experience this can now come for a track day, where they will pay an amount and get to drive around the MMRT. Be it a budding racer, a motorsport fan, a sponsor or someone willing to invest in motorsport can come find out for themselves what it feels like".
Chandhok also confirmed that the MMRT will reserve 20 days every year for such track days. Further information will be revealed on October 29, 2017, itself.
