KTM, the renowned Austrian motorcycle manufacturer, has been spied on testing three new 990 models: a supermoto, a naked roadster, and a fully-faired sportbike. As evident by recent spy shots, KTM is currently developing and testing the 990 RC R sportbike. Although the test mule was spotted with heavy camouflage, it does reveal some crucial details about the upcoming model. Although KTM continues to offer the 790 and 890 range, the 990 series is expected to gain popularity because of its increased power and compliance with the most recent emission regulations that severely limit motorcycle performance around the world. Let's look at what the 990 RC R may offer, in terms of performance, hardware, and other aspects.

KTM 990 RC R: Design Elements

It's important to remember that this will be the first street-legal KTM sports bike in a few years before we delve into the specifics of the machine. For the uninitiated, the RC8 R was the brand's most recent model to possess this sort of capability. The company developed track-only variants like the RC 8C following the RC8 R. But now, every bit of this understanding will be put to use in the development of the KTM 990 RC R, and this test mule provides an impression of what to expect. It has a layered fairing with winglets integrated into the body. The majority of contemporary bikes in this class come equipped with this feature as standard. When riding at high speeds, the functional feature gives the bike more downforce and enhances its aerodynamics.

Like its predecessor, the bike has a single headlamp integrated into the front fascia. The rearview mirrors and wind deflector visor are mounted on the front fairing of this road-legal motorcycle. With the footpegs positioned exactly in line with the seat, the saddle tucks the rider in and gives the impression of a comfortable riding stance. It will have a subframe made of composite aluminium. Furthermore, the mule can be seen with test equipment on its tail portion to record test data.

KTM 990 RC R: Engine and Hardware Components

The race-spec RC 8C serves as an inspiration for the KTM 990 RC R. It will be propelled by a 947cc, parallel-twin, LC8c engine with a peak torque of 103Nm and a maximum output of 128bhp. A gearbox with six speeds will be mated to the motor. Additionally, the test mule has an upswept exhaust system that may not be present on the production model and appears to have been added for testing.

A steel trellis frame will support the motorcycle, which will also be suspended by an adjustable monoshock and fully adjustable WP Apex Open cartridge suspension. Moreover, it will include movable footpegs that allow the rider triangle to be altered to suit personal preferences. The KTM 990 RC R will be equipped with Brembo's top-spec Hypure callipers in contrast to the KTM 990 Duke, which employs J.Juan callipers.

The motorcycle is anticipated to make its European premiere the next year, and will probably go on sale soon after. In terms of market rivalry, the KTM model will lock horns with the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R and the Ducati Panigale V2.
