2016 Kawasaki SC-02 'Soul Charger' Concept Sketch

Kawasaki has just dropped a teaser of its upcoming product; likely to be its first supercharged Z-branded model.

Kawasaki Motors has taken to YouTube to announce the forthcoming arrival of its next machine, which seems to be a direct rival to Ducati's upcoming Streetfighter V4, a naked version of the manic Panigale V4. While the teaser video (titled ‘Supercharged Breaking News: More Kawasaki major news arrives soon – Feel the Force!’) does not hint at the bike's look or silhouette yet, what its does confirm is that it'll be a model belonging to the brand's 'Z' product family and that it'll be supercharged.

Kawasaki Supercharged Z Model Teaser

A still from the teaser video makes it pretty clear that the new model will be a Z-branded machine

While we do not know what the final, production-spec version of the supercharged Z model will look like, one cannot help but go back in time to 2015, to the 2015 EICMA to be specific, where Kawasaki revealed two design sketches of its future supercharged models. Out of the two sketches, the SC-02 'Soul Charger' (lead image) is a representation of a naked bike fitted with the H2's 998cc inline-four supercharged motor. This Concept sketch could very well be the inspiration behind this soon-to-be-revealed supercharged Z model.

While the Streetfighter V4 is likely to be revealed at the 2019 EICMA in November, Kawasaki might just steal their thunder by showing a prototype of the new model at the preceding Tokyo Motor Show, which starts in October. What will also be interesting is the power configuration Kawasaki chooses for the new Z model, whether it'll be the same 228bhp like the standard H2 or the lesser 197bhp output of the touring-oriented H2 SX (the full-blown 306bhp configuration of the H2R is unlikely).
