October 17, 2024. That's when Kawasaki India will launch its new motorcycle. While we do not know yet what the vehicle will turn out to be, we expect the vehicle in question to be the KLX 230 S dual-sport motorcycle. Select dealers have reportedly started accepting unofficial bookings for the upcoming KLX 230 S, ahead of the official price announcement. We expect Kawasaki to locally produce the dual-sport bike, thereby pricing it competitively (Rs 2.20 lakh–Rs 2.70 lakh, ex-showroom) in India.
As per spy shots, the Kawasaki KLX 230 S will be road-legal and have India-specific elements, including a front number plate holder, a saree guard, and a single-piece pillion grabrail. It will closely resemble the international-spec KLX 230 S. The model sold abroad has a small LED headlamp (with a cowl), a flat-profile seat, and a large beak, typical for an ADV. Other bits include an upswept exhaust and an on/off function for the anti-lock braking system (ABS).

The Kawasaki KLX 230 S has an 843mm seat height and a 239mm ground clearance. While the US website lists the kerb weight as 133kg, the made-in-India, road-legal Kawasaki KLX 230 S could weigh around 140kg, thanks to India-specific essentials. Notably, the numbers are for the 2024 iteration listed on the company's international website.

The model sits on a steel perimeter frame, suspended by a 37mm gaitered telescopic front fork (with 198mm of wheel travel) and a rear monoshock (with 221mm of wheel travel). The braking setup, on the other hand, consists of 240mm front and 220mm rear petal discs, accompanied by ABS (anti-lock braking system). The discs come mounted on a 21-inch front and an 18-inch rear spoked wheel wrapped in block pattern tyres.
