Jawa launched the all-new 42 FJ in early September in India. The company's 42 lineup now comprises the 42, 42 FJ, and 42 Bobber. Compared to the regular 42 launched earlier, the 42 FJ comes with extensive updates both inside and out. With prices starting at Rs 1.99 lakh, the new Jawa 42 FJ is more sporty and powerful than the regular 42, which ranges from Rs 1.73 to Rs 1.98 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom. Let's compare the two to find out what makes them different.
To begin with, the Jawa 42 FJ gets a bigger 334cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, good for 29bhp and 29.6Nm of peak torque. This makes it more powerful than the older Jawa 42, which makes 27bhp and 26.84Nm using a 294.72cc J-Panther single-cylinder liquid-cooled unit. Both engines are mated to a 6-speed gearbox, accompanied by a slip-and-assist clutch.

Jawa 42 FJ vs Jawa 42: Chassis, Suspension, Brakes
Though the Jawa 42 FJ and the Jawa 42 share a double cradle chassis, they slightly differ in terms of suspension. The former uses a 41mm telescopic front fork and rear shock absorbers with 5-step preload adjustability, whereas the latter features a 35mm telescopic fork and twin gas-charged shock absorbers. The braking setup is the same in both bikes – a single disc at both ends. Both bikes roll on 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels, but the 42 FJ gets fatter tyres.
Jawa 42 FJ vs Jawa 42: Design
The Jawa 42 FJ has a more sporty design than the normal Jawa 42. Compared to the latter, the former gets a new headlamp, a slimmer fuel tank (with a brushed aluminium finish), single-piece handlebars, and upswept exhaust pipes but misses out on a small visor, offered on the 42. Its fenders and side panels closely resemble the regular 42, while the diamond-cut alloy wheels seem to have been borrowed from the 42 Bobber.
Jawa 42 FJ vs Jawa 42: Colours
As for colours, Jawa offers the new 42 FJ in five new options: Cosmo Blue Matte, Mystique Copper, Aurora Green Matte, Deep Black/Matte Black Clad, and Deep Black/Matte Red Clad. Meanwhile, the Jawa 42 is offered in 14 colour options, of which six are new – Vega White, Voyager Red, Asteroid Grey, Odyssey Black, Nebula Blue, and Celestial Copper Matte.
