Kawasaki has taken the wraps off its most popular middle-weight supersport, the Ninja ZX-6R. The motorcycle sports a few changes. We expect the Japanese brand to bring the 2022 Ninja ZX-6R to India soon!
Back in early 2020 when the BS6 emission norms were imposed, many motorcycle manufacturers focused on transitioning their mass-market products from BS4 standards to BS6 standards. A few motorcycles that did not bring impressive numbers in terms of sales were overlooked or temporarily discontinued. The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R was one such bike, which was discontinued in early 2020, for it did not comply with the new emission norms.
Kawasaki has now revealed the updated 2022 Ninja ZX-6R overseas, and it will be a missed opportunity for the brand if it does not launch the updated motorcycle in the Indian market. Now, Kawasaki has updated the engine to meet the BS6 emission regulations, which is the extent of all the changes that the updated bike features. Yes, there are new colour options, but they are simply cosmetic changes to give the bike a new look. The mechanicals and cycle parts are also the same as before.
As mentioned above, the engine has been updated to meet the new emission norms; however, the layout, displacement, and output of the engine remain the same as before.
The 2022 Ninja ZX-6R gets the same inline-four 636cc powerhouse, which still puts out 128bhp and 70.6Nm. The four-cylinder engine is coupled with a six-speed transmission, which features a slip and assists clutch, along with a quick-shifter. The electronics include traction control and riding modes, which are also the same as before.
The 2022 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R is likely to be launched in India early next year. The previous ZX-6R retailed close to Rs 10.50 lakh (ex-showroom); however, with the BS6 compliant engine, the newer motorcycle will be a tad bit expensive. Expect it to be priced between Rs 11.50 and 12 lakh (ex-showroom). The motorcycle will be positioned in a niche segment of its own as a cutting edge middle-weight supersport.
