Within a year after the unveiling of the eagerly-anticipated XL750 Transalp at EICMA 2022, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) today launched the adventure bike in the Indian market at an introductory price of Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). Notably, this pricing is subject to change. The bookings for the first 100 units are already underway at Honda's BigWing dealerships in Gurugram, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Indore, Kochi, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata. The Honda XL750 Transalp will be imported into the country as a completely built-up unit (CBU). Taking design inspiration from the Africa Twin, the smaller-capacity Transalp features a semi-faring, compact LED headlamp, integrated windscreen, stepped single-piece seat, as well as an aluminium rear carrier.
On top of that, the new adventure tourer offers all-LED lighting, a 5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, a Honda Smartphone Voice Control system, an emergency stop signal, Honda Selectable Torque Control, a slipper clutch, ride-by-wire, and 5 riding modes – Standard, Rain, Gravel, Sport, and User. In User mode, the rider can choose between two levels of ABS settings, three levels of engine braking, and five steps of traction control.
Honda XL750 Transalp: Engine and Output
The Honda XL750 Transalp shares its mechanicals and underpinnings with the CB750 Hornet. At their hearts is a 755cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine with a 270-degree crank, belting out 91bhp at 9,500rpm and 75Nm of peak torque at 7,250rpm. Honda says that the in-line cylinders use a Ni-SiC (Nickel-Silicon Carbide) coating as used on the CRF450R and the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, thereby improving engine efficiency. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 6-speed unit, accompanied by a slip-and-assist clutch and a bi-directional quickshifter.
Honda XL750 Transalp: Hardware
The 755cc parallel-twin engine comes nestled within a steel diamond-type frame, which is suspended with the help of 43mm Showa Separate Function upside-down front forks (with 200mm of travel) and a Pro-Link rear monoshock (with 190mm of travel), both featuring preload adjustability. Honda says that this diamond steel frame is 10 per cent lighter than the CB500X's frame.
Stopping power comes from 310mm dual discs with two-piston axially mounting callipers at the front and a 256mm single disc with a single-piston calliper at the back. These discs come mounted on tube-type wire-spoke wheels, measuring 21 inches up front and 18 inches at the rear, suggesting its off-road intentions. Also, Honda has been able to limit the weight of the Transalp to 208kg, which makes it one of the lightest multi-cylinder adventure tourers in India. Meanwhile, the BMW F 850 GS tips the scales at 233 kilograms.
