Honda Recalls Gold Wing GL1800 and CBR1000RR Motorcycles in India; Here's Why
The latest recall from Honda includes the CBR1000RR units built between September 2017 and April 2020 and the Gold Wing GL1800 models manufactured between December 2017 and December 2023.
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has initiated a recall for two of its premium motorcycle models – the CBR1000RR and the Gold Wing GL1800. The Japanese bike giant claims that the recall was initiated because of a faulty fuel pump. It appears that the fuel pumps in the CBR1000RR Fireblade and the Honda Gold Wing GL1800 may malfunction and cause the bikes to come to a standstill during operation, which could be extremely dangerous at higher speeds. The latest announcement from the Indian arm of the bikemaker comes just days after the global recall of over 20,000 units of the Gold Wing, the CBR1000RR Fireblade, and the CBR 600 RR.
Honda Gold Wing GL1800, CBR1000RR India Recall
This most recent Honda recall includes units of the CBR1000RR manufactured between September 2017 and April 2020 and the Gold Wing GL1800 models manufactured between December 2017 and December 2023. According to the bike maker, the issue is with the fuel pump impellers, which may have developed as a result of an incorrect mould and can lead to fuel pump failure and distortion. Consequently, it can cut off the fuel supply, causing the bike to come to a halt abruptly. Notably, Honda has not yet specified how many units of these motorcycles have been affected by the recall.
As part of the process, the manufacturer has assured free fuel pump inspections and replacements for owners of affected units of the Gold Wing GL1800 and CBR1000RR Fireblade, regardless of the warranty status. The firm's premium BigWing dealerships will notify owners of the concerned models. According to the company, the replacement procedure will take about an hour to complete. You can visit the Honda BigWing India website and enter the VIN of your Gold Wing GL1800 or CBR1000RR Fireblade to check if your particular model is included in this recall.
