Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has voluntarily recalled its GL1800 Gold Wing tourer to address a possible issue with the primary drive gear fastening bolt in certain engines. This precautionary recall aims to ensure both rider safety and the vehicle’s reliability. The decision follows a global recall for the same model, emphasising Honda's dedication to upholding rigorous safety standards worldwide.
The recall affects Gold Wing Tour units manufactured between March 2018 and May 2021. The company said that a defect in the primary drive gear bolt could cause it to break under certain circumstances, potentially leading to engine failure. Although Honda has not revealed the exact number of affected motorcycles, this recall serves as a proactive step to eliminate any potential risks.
The Replacement Process
Starting in the third week of December, the two-wheeler manufacturer will conduct free replacements of the faulty drive gear bolts at BigWing dealerships across India. This service will be available for all impacted motorcycles, regardless of warranty coverage, highlighting Honda’s focus on customer safety and care. For the uninitiated, the Honda Gold Wing is priced at Rs 39.20 lakh (ex-showroom).
