Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India recently showcased its upcoming electric two-wheelers at EICMA 2024, in addition to a new liquid-cooled turbocharged V3 engine. One of the EVs was the CUV e: electric scooter, on which the Activa Electric could be based. Let's just cut to the chase. Honda has most recently issued an invitation for a new unveil taking place on November 27. It paired the invite with an interesting text: 'Watts ahead', and rumour has it that the model in question could be the Activa Electric. It is not unknown that Honda has been working on the electric version of the Activa for quite some time now and, to keep prices in check, we expect the scooter to take cues from its ICE (internal combustion engine) counterpart, albeit with the addition of EV-specific bits.
Honda Activa Electric: Powertrain
The manufacturer is cagey about the specifics of the electric scooter. But, the scooter is believed to have a 100km range, with performance equivalent to the 110cc Activa, which is currently the best-selling scooter in the ICE space. The Honda Activa 110 uses a 109.51cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine with 7.68bhp and 8.79Nm of torque, for your reference. The engine is mated to a CVT. First introduced in 2001, the scooter starts at Rs 76,684 for the standard version and goes up to Rs 82,684 for the Activa H-Smart. The prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.
Honda Activa Electric: Battery
As for the battery, the Honda Activa Electric is expected to offer swappable units like the Vida V1. There is also a possibility that Honda may equip the two-wheeler with a fixed battery pack, as it had earlier revealed its plans to launch two electric scooters in India – one with a fixed battery and the other with a swappable unit.
Honda Activa Electric: Chassis
The Activa Electric could ride on a dedicated platform, internally codenamed Platform 'E'. The new platform will be the basis for different products with varying battery architecture and installation. The electric scooter will most likely use a telescopic fork and a monoshock to handle suspension duties, while the stopping power should come from a disc at the front and a drum brake at the rear.
Upon launch in our market, the Honda Activa Electric will go toe-to-toe with the Ather 450X, Ola S1, TVS iQube, and the Bajaj Chetak lineup.
