The Harley-Davidson X440 is the first product of the partnership between the American motorcycle manufacturer and Hero Motocorp. Priced from Rs 2.40 lakh to Rs 2.80 lakh (ex-showroom, India), this premium motorcycle is developed entirely in India by the Indian auto major at its Centre for Innovation and Technology with inputs from Harley-Davidson. Following the launch of the X440, Hero is now preparing to unveil its X440-based motorcycle on January 22 this year, probably a naked streetfighter with a sporty design.
While the Harley-Davidson XX40 and the new 440cc Hero bike may have identical underpinnings, they will likely be differentiated in styling from each other. The upcoming motorcycle will appeal to young riders, and pack more features than the X440.
Harley-Davidson X440-based Hero Motorcycle: Engine, Hardware
In terms of powertrain, Hero MotoCorp will house the same engine in its upcoming vehicle as the X440, but the engine will have a distinct sound. A 440cc, single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine with a 6-speed gearbox powers the Harley-Davidson X440. Power and torque figures stand at 27bhp at 6,000rpm and 38Nm at 4,000rpm, respectively.
In addition to the engine and gearbox, the upcoming Hero motorcycle is expected to share hardware components with the X440. For reference, the Harley-Davidson X440 gets inverted forks at the front and twin gas-charged shock absorbers at the back. Meanwhile, the braking hardware comprises a single 320mm disc at the front and a 240mm disc at the back, assisted by dual-channel ABS.
Harley-Davidson X440-based Hero Motorcycle: Features and Other Details
Features-wise, the all-new Hero bike could be equipped with a 3.5-inch digital instrument console, Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and more.
As far as the naming of the bike goes, the upcoming X440-based Hero bike could be called the 'Hurikan 440' as the Indian brand had previously filed a trademark for the Hurikan 440, suggesting that its future models could be based on the Harley-Davidson 440 platform. Other than this, Hero also trademarked the 'Nightster 440' and 'Mavrick 440' names.
