The Hero Mavrick 440—a new naked street bike—has entered the Indian motorcycle market, with a starting price of Rs 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It is now available for reservations, and a special Welcome to Mavrick Club offer is in effect. With this, customers who book the bike in advance by March 15 will receive a personalized 'Mavrick Kit' that includes clothing and accessories valued at Rs 10,000. As already known, the Mavrick 440 is Hero's version of the Harley-Davidson X440, but it has undergone several modifications. Some differences include telescopic forks and hydraulic dual shocks in place of USD forks and gas-charged dual shocks on the X440 and a 17-inch front wheel as opposed to the 18-inch unit on the American counterpart.
Aside from the Harley model, on which it is based, the new Hero bike competes against a few other bikes in the class. In this article, we've compared the new Hero Mavrick 440 with the Triumph Speed 400. When the Speed 400 was introduced last year, its reasonable special price of Rs 2.23 lakh (ex-showroom) caused a huge craze among motorcycle aficionados in India. Now that the Mavrick 440 has arrived, let's explore the differences between these two bikes from distinct manufacturers based on several parameters.
Hero Mavrick 440 vs Triumph Speed 400: Design
The new Hero bike—built on a Harley-Davidson model—has a neo-retro style. It comes with a single-piece seat configuration, bar-end mirrors, and a round LED headlight with an H-shaped LED DRL. The Speed 400, on the other hand, is a tone-down Triumph modern classic, with design traits like a blacked-out engine case, upswept exhaust, contoured fuel tank, bar-end mirrors, golden USD forks, and more.
Hero Mavrick 440 vs Triumph Speed 400: Engine and Hardware
The heart of the new Hero Mavrick is a 440cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine that pumps out 27bhp at 6,000rpm and 36Nm at 4,000rpm. While the motor is the same as the X440, the Hero bike produces 2Nm less than the American counterpart. In contrast, the Speed 400 from Triumph stable gets a 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled unit that puts out 40bhp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm. A 6-speed gearbox, however, is standard on both the bikes. Hence, one can easily make out that the Speed 400's engine is more powerful and torquey as compared to the newly released Hero bike.
The Hero Mavrick 440's hardware consists of a monoshock and telescopic front forks. It has 17-inch alloy wheels, as well as, 320mm front and 240mm rear discs for braking. However, the entry-level variant of the bike has tube tyres mounted on spoke wheels. The Speed 400 is equipped with USD front forks, a monoshock, and dual-channel ABS disc brakes on both the front and rear of the bike. It rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels shod with road-based tyres.
Hero Mavrick 440 vs Triumph Speed 400: Features
Numerous features are included with the new Hero 440cc bike. These are a fully digital instrument cluster, automatic headlights, a USB-C charging outlet, and Bluetooth connectivity for phone and turn-by-turn navigation. The Speed 400, on the other hand, features an anti-theft immobilizer, a semi-digital instrument cluster, full LED lighting, a ride-by-wire throttle, and a switchable traction control system.
Hero Mavrick 440 vs Triumph Speed 400: Price
The newly released Hero Mavrick 440 has variants—Base, Mid, and Top—priced at Rs 1.99 lakh, Rs 2.14 lakh, and Rs 2.24 lakh, respectively. In contrast, the Speed 400 has only one variant and costs Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom). These prices are ex-showroom.
