Harley-Davidson’s affordable motorcycles become dearer.
Not too long ago, American bike maker Harley-Davidson had slashed the prices of its CBU range after the government revised its import duty structure.
As you might remember, import duties on CBUs were decreased from 75per cent/ 60 per cent to 50 per cent, but surprisingly, duties were increased on CKD models from 10 per cent to 15 per cent. A majority of Harley’s motorcycles are assembled in India, and consequently, their prices have been raised by Rs 8,000 - 70,000.
The affected models include the Harley Davidson Street 750, Street Rod, Iron 883, 1200 Custom, Forty-Eight, Roadmaster, Street Bob, Low Rider, Fat Bob, Fat Boy, Softail Deluxe and Heritage Classic. As you can see, these affected models actually make up for a majority of Harley’s monthly sales in India, as their CBU range, which starts at Rs 24.99 lakh, is out of reach of many enthusiasts.
