BMW Motorrad has recently unveiled the first-ever M 1000 XR along with an updated version of the S 1000 XR for the global market. The BMW M XR is the third M model from the company's motorcycle venture and is based on the current S 1000 XR and the S 1000 RR. As part of an upgrade for 2024, the S 1000 XR gets enhanced performance, improved ergonomics, a slimmer design, and more standard and optional amenities. Both bikes feature the same 999cc engine, but the M 1000 XR delivers greater power than its counterpart because of performance upgrades. The automotive giant has only showcased the motorcycles for international markets. There is no information on when these bikes will be available in India. However, we expect further information on this subject to be revealed shortly. Until then, let's take a quick look at the specs and features of these BMW motorcycles.

BMW M 1000 XR, S 1000 XR: Engine
The identical 999cc inline four-cylinder engine powers both BMW motorcycles. The new S 1000 XR now produces 168bhp, which is 5bhp more than its predecessor. According to the manufacturer, the primary factors responsible for the performance gain are a flow-optimised intake channel configuration and customised mapping. The torque value, however, remains unchanged at 114Nm. In contrast, the M 1000 XR superbike generates 198bhp, which is 30bhp higher than the S 1000 XR. At 11,000rpm, the engine provides a peak torque of 113Nm and can rev up to 14,600rpm. A more lightweight exhaust system, shorter gear ratios, and an extended rev range all add to its increased performance. The BMW M 1000 XR can travel from a complete stop to 100km/h in 3.2 seconds and tops out at 275km/h. Both the BMW bikes have a six-speed transmission with a bidirectional quickshifter.
BMW M 1000 XR, S 1000 XR: Hardware
The redesigned S 1000 XR and the new M 1000 XR are equipped with an electrically adjustable double-sided swing arm at the rear and an upside-down fork setup at the front. The M 1000 XR also features Dynamic Damping Control (DDC), which automatically alters the suspension to match the riding environments. The revamped S 1000 XR's braking system comprises a 320mm twin-disc unit up front and a 220mm single-disc setup at the rear. The new M 1000 XR, on the other hand, sports a 320mm twin-disc at the front and a 265mm single-disc arrangement at the rear. The M 1000 XR is fitted with M brakes and a radial hand brake pump. The brand-new M 1000 XR also comes with wind deflectors and M winglets. The additional downforce provided by the winglets raises the front wheel load starting at 100km/h. According to the manufacturer, the downforce at 220km/h can increase by approximately 12kg.
A number of features are included with these motorcycles, such as wheelie control, lean-sensitive ABS and traction control, and cruise control. In particular, the M 1000 XR includes several extra features like launch control, a pit lane limiter, and a brake slide assist.
BMW M 1000 XR, S 1000 XR: Styling and Features
The M 1000 XR features a performance-focused design language. The side and front profiles of the bike exude a sporty vibe. It features a split LED headlight, a handlebar that is more forward inclined, new M winglets, lightweight aluminium wheels, and more. Similar to the S 1000 XR, the motorcycle has a 6.5-inch digital instrument cluster, but it offers distinctive animations for the rev count and start-up function. Furthermore, buyers have the option to select the M Competition Package, which uses M-Carbon parts such as the wheels, front fender, chain guard, and side panels that reduce the bike's weight by three kgs.

Cosmetically, the S 1000 XR has undergone a few notable changes. It now sports a more powerful appearance as a result of revised side panels and air intakes inspired by motorsports on the rear part. The bike also gets a front fender painted in the body colour. The updated bike has a 10mm increased seat (850mm). There are a total of three seat height options available to riders. The S 1000 XR has also received improved graphics and additional choices for colour. The revamped BMW motorcycle comes in three paint options: Gravityblue Metallic, Blackstorm Metallic, and Lightwhite Solid Paint/Motorsport (in conjunction with the M package and M seat).
