EICMA 2024: Japanese manufacturer Honda has showcased an electric scooter at EICMA 2024, along with two electric motorcycle concepts. In parallel with these, the Japanese company has unveiled the ICE (internal combustion engine)
Concept – a liquid-cooled 75-degree V3 engine with an electric compressor. The engine layout of the 'world's first V3' – with two cylinders at the front and a single cylinder at the rear – is an interesting characteristic that sets it apart. Honda has yet to disclose the displacement of the V3 but says that the engine will be available in the upcoming 'medium-high displacement' motorcycles.
Two years after it displayed its EM1 e: electric moped at EICMA 2022, Honda brought out its electric scooter, the CUV e:. CUV in the name stands for Clean Urban Vehicle. The electric scooter gets two interchangeable battery packs and offers a claimed range of over 70km on a single charge. With the CUV e:, owners can opt for either a 5.0-inch or a 7.0-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity. The vehicle also gets 3 ride modes, reverse assist, LED lighting, and a USB-C socket.

Honda EV Fun Concept
Let's get to the electric motorcycle concepts. The first is the EV Fun Concept – the company's first electric sports bike following a 'sleek, futuristic design language' with a sharp headlamp design. It offers what Honda says is 'performance equivalent to a mid-sized internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycle'. The sports bike's fixed battery is compatible with a CCS2 quick charger (the same standard as automobiles). It provides a cruising range of more than 100km (claimed).
Aside from that, the EV Fun Concept features an inverted front fork and dual radial-mount Nissin brakes for stability and handling. It is due for commercialisation in 2025.
Honda EV Urban Concept
With its function-focused design, connected tech, and in-house battery, the EV Urban Concept 'embodies Honda's vision of urban electric mobility'. While little is known about the concept, the image above reveals a design similar to a maxi-scooter, while the bike's battery case and electric motor are reminiscent of the BMW CE 04. It will be available with a digital display with navigation.
