Benelli made a significant impression at the EICMA 2023 event through the introduction of a range of parallel-twin bikes, with a specific focus on the mid-displacement sports bike market segment. The recent release of the Benelli Tornado series, which consists of three models ranging from 300cc to 500cc, signifies the company's revived focus on this particular market area after a temporary hiatus. These three models, like other Benelli bikes, have been designed and manufactured in China. However, they still exhibit the unmistakable Italian design language that characterises Benelli products. These motorcycles have been targeted for sale in Asian markets, as well as select European countries. Designed for markets in Asia and select European countries, these motorcycles share an overarching silhouette, yet each variant stands out with unique front fascias and other design elements.
Design
The Tornado 300 exhibits a notable frontal design characterised by vertically arranged LED projectors that are smoothly incorporated into the fascia. Furthermore, distinct changes may be observed in the side fairing, back seat panels, and exhaust systems throughout all three variants. The following model is the Tornado 400, which stands out from the other vehicles in the lineup thanks to its unique wheel design and comparable headlight unit sans winglets. The Tornado 500 distinguishes itself with the inclusion of boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and centrally positioned projector headlights, thereby imparting a unique aesthetic element to its overall appearance.

Features
The Tornado 500 is equipped with a 5.0-inch colour TFT display that offers many functions including Bluetooth connectivity, TPMS function, USB, and a USB-C port. The bike's frame consists of a tubular steel trellis arrangement, which is enhanced by the presence of an inverted Marzocchi 41 mm fork and a centrally positioned shock absorber. Significantly, this particular model is fitted with a capacious 16.5-litre fuel tank.
The Tornado 400 maintains essential characteristics, such as the presence of a 5.0-inch colour TFT display. It has an inverted fork and a single-sided aluminium swingarm with a spring preload adjuster, making it a sturdy choice. The Tornado 400 exhibits a harmonious blend of aesthetic appeal and practical use, characterised by its 14.8-litre fuel tank capacity and a seat height of 795 mm.
The Tornado 300 incorporates a 5-inch colour TFT display and Bluetooth connectivity while retaining the frame characteristics of the 400cc version. These include an inverted fork and a rear swingarm equipped with a mono-shock that allows for adjustable spring preload. The fuel tank possesses a capacity of 14 litres, while the seat is positioned at a height of 800 mm, hence facilitating a seamless integration of technological features and rider comfort.
Engine
Distinguished by premium components for heightened performance, the Tornado 500 showcases a robust 500cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, delivering a potent 47.6 bhp and 46 Nm of torque.
The Benelli Tornado 300 has a 300cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine, generating a nimble 35 bhp and 27 Nm. In contrast, the Tornado 400 boasts a 399cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, producing an impressive 47.6 bhp and 38 Nm.

In terms of competition, the Tornado 300 sets its sights on rivals like the Ninja 300 and Yamaha R3, while the Tornado 400 competes against the Ninja 400. Lastly, the Tornado 500 enters the arena against the recently unveiled Ninja 500. Despite this, Benelli appears unlikely to introduce any of the aforementioned Tornado models anytime soon to the Indian market.
