CRA Motorsports, a Coimbatore-based Motorsport conglomerate, has launched India's first racing bike for young riders. Called the Atom GP1, it’s a mini race bike designed particularly for children aged 10 to 17 years. In the Indian market, it carries a sticker price of Rs 2.75 lakh (exclusive of GST, ex-showroom). The bike is claimed to provide a boost to grassroots motorsport in India, offering young riders an affordable way to start their racing careers. Weighing 85 kilograms, the race bike packs a 159cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, which develops 15bhp at 8,000rpm and 13.85Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed unit for transmission duties. CRA claims that it has a top speed of 105km/h.

In terms of hardware, the Atom GP1 gets upside-down forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. Braking responsibilities are taken care of by a single disc brake at the front and a petal-type disc at the rear.

Possessing a custom-built frame, the bike sits on the TVS Ntorq-derived 12-inch alloy wheels with TVS Remora tyres. The CRA Atom GP1 has a fibre-glass body with a race-tuned exhaust system. It will be manufactured at the CRA Motorsports facility in Coimbatore, which has a production capacity of 250 units per annum.
CRA Atom GP1 Bike to Race in Entry-Level Racing Championship
It is also worth noting that the new CRA Atom GP1 is not road legal and is meant only for track usage. And according to the manufacturer, young racers between 10 and 17 years will ride this bike at the inaugural edition of the Atom GP1 Championship in 2023, which will be preceded by the 2023 INMRC (Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship) in October this year.
CRA Motorsports plans to launch the Atom GP Series with a total of four national-level rounds to be held at Meco Kartopia in Bengaluru, Karnataka. For the national-level championship, the grid will constitute a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 15 riders. Each round will have two practice sessions of 10 minutes each, a 10-minute qualifying session, and two races of eight and ten laps.
Additionally, a 5-round national championship in 2024 will feature participants from 5 different countries, according to the conglomerate. There are also other racing events planned for 2025, with participants from 15 countries across the globe, including Asia, Europe, and the U.S.A.

CRA Atom GP1 First Prototype Developed in 2020
The CRA Atom GP1 Race Bike has been developed over a period of three years. The first prototype came out in 2020, followed by the second in 2021. And now, the production-ready Atom GP1 bike will be used by aspiring riders on karting tracks in Bengaluru, Kerala, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, UAE, and Malaysia.
