Prices of the BS6 Vespa range start at Rs 93,035 for the LX and go right up to Rs 1,26,650 for the top-spec SXL 149. The BS6 update brings with it a considerable drop in the power figures too
Although a little late to join the party, Piaggio has finally updated its Vespa range to meet the BS6 emission norms. The base variant of the Vespa, the 125 Urban Club is now priced at Rs 93,035, that’s an unbelievable increase of more than Rs 20,000. The top-of-the-line SXL 149 carries a price tag of Rs 1,26,650. Both prices ex-showroom Delhi.
The biggest change to the flagship Vespa is the updated heart. As the name rightly suggests, the Vespa VXL 149 and SXL 149 scooter now displace 149cc instead of the outgoing model’s 150cc. Power is now down to 10.3bhp as opposed to 11.4bhp from before. Torque rating stands at 10.6Nm. Meanwhile, the lower-spec Vespa 125s now make 9.7bhp and 9.6Nm in comparison to 9.5bhp and 9.9Nm from before. In accordance with the norms, the 125 offerings come with a Combined Braking System while the 149 range gets ABS as standard. Speaking of braking, the ZX, SXL and the VXL trims come fitted with a 200mm disc at the front while the Urban Club and the LX trims make do with a drum setup. At the back, all variants get 140mm drum brakes.
Vespa scooters are known for their uber cool retro modern appeal, and so it doesn’t quite come as a surprise that Piaggio hasn’t changed much on the design front. The SXL range flaunts a squared headlight design while the VXL gets the conventional round shaped one. All the Vespa variants will continue to be offered in a range of vibrant colour options.
