BMW Motorrad has brought two new roadster motorcycles to the Indian market, the R 12 and R 12 nineT. With a starting price of Rs 19.90 lakh (ex-showroom), these bikes cater to riders who appreciate a classic aesthetic. Their design evokes a sense of nostalgia with elements like a boxy aluminium tank, brushed metal accents, and eye-catching spoke wheels. But it's the powerful boxer engine with its protruding cylinder heads that truly steals the show, making these BMWs stand out on the road.  If you're looking for a competitor to the Triumph Speed Twin, and prioritize a distinctive retro style, the R 12 and R 12 nineT are worth considering.

Design

The R 12 nineT stands out with its classic retro design. A single-sided swingarm gives a clean rear look, while peashooter-style dual exhaust pipes and traditional spoke wheels add to its vintage appeal. The most distinctive feature is the air-cooled boxer engine with its iconic protruding cylinder heads, a signature element of BMW motorcycles. The all-new BMW R 12 nineT offers riders more colour options for added individuality. In addition to the standard Blackstorm metallic, customers can choose a two-tone finish that combines brushed aluminium with Night Black solid paint, or opt for the striking San Remo Green metallic.

Standard features include the advanced Headlight Pro system for better nighttime visibility and a Keyless Ride system for convenience. Riders can also select different riding modes to match various styles and road conditions.

Mechanical Details

At the heart of the BMW R 12 and R 12 nineT is a 1,170cc air/oil-cooled twin-cylinder boxer engine with a horizontally opposed layout. The R 12 nineT produces 109bhp at 7,000 rpm and 115Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, while the R 12 delivers 95bhp at 6,500 rpm and 110Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm, providing strong performance for both models.

Standard electronic aids include traction control, engine drag torque control, a keyless ride system, selectable riding modes, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The optional Comfort Package adds Hill Start Control Pro, Shift Assistant Pro for clutch-less gear changes, heated grips, and cruise control.
