BMW Motorrad has officially opened bookings for the upcoming CE 02, the company's second electric scooter after the recently launched CE 04. Those planning to buy can book the new CE 02 by contacting their nearest authorised BMW Motorrad dealership.

The CE 02, BMW's first electric two-wheeler developed under collaboration with TVS, will be launched this month in India, and BMW plans to produce the two-wheeler locally at TVS' Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu. While the launch will take place in due course, we expect the new CE 02 to be priced in the ballpark of Rs 4 lakh–Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom). In the international market, the CE 02 starts at $ 7,599 (roughly Rs 6.40 lakh) for the base variant and goes up to $ 8,474 (roughly Rs 7 lakh) for the top-end variant. The India-bound CE 02 will be positioned below the CE 04 (Rs 14.90 lakh, ex-showroom), the country's most expensive scooter and electric two-wheeler.

Per teasers, the BMW CE 02 will have a sleek design, minimalist bodywork, a single-piece flat seat, an LED headlamp, a small visor, and a golden upside-down (USD) front fork. Features-wise, the scooter will likely offer a 3.5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity. Other expected bits include a keyless ride, automatic stability control, an electric reverse gear, single-channel ABS, and USB-C charging.

Overseas, the BMW CE 02 gets two removable batteries (1.96kWh), sending power to an air-cooled synchronous motor that makes 15bhp at 5,000rpm and 55Nm of peak torque at 1,000rpm. With a single battery, the scooter has a 45km range (claimed) and a 45km/h top speed (claimed), while the twin-battery setup is said to yield a 90km range with a top speed of 95km/h. The scooter can be charged from 0% to 100% in 5 hours and 12 minutes using a normal 0.9kW charger. The 1.5kW fast charger, which reduces the charging time to 3 hours and 30 minutes, is also available. It remains to be seen whether the company will offer a single- or twin-battery setup for our market.

The India-spec CE 02 should use a USD fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear for suspension, while the braking setup will likely combine a 239mm front disc with a 220mm rear disc. 14-inch alloy wheels, equipped with 120/80 section front and 150/70 section rear tyres, will most likely be offered upon launch. Two ride modes are also on the cards: Flow and Surf.
