BMW Motorrad India’s first maxi-scooter is expected to make its debut in the coming weeks. The BMW C 400 GT is likely to start a middle-weight maxi-scooter trend in India.
BMW Motorrad India has teased an image of its maxi-scooter – the C 400 GT – on its social network handles, confirming that the maxi-scooter will go on sale soon. The BMW C 400 GT is likely to make its way to our market via the CBU route. With the launch of the new C 400 GT, BMW Motorrad could kick-start a new premium segment of maxi-scooters, something that the Aprilia SRV 850 failed to do.
The C 400 GT was recently updated to meet the Euro 5 emission norms, which is equivalent to our BS6 standards. The updates include a ride-by-wire system, a re-programmed ECU, a redesigned (Euro 5 compliant) exhaust system, updated brakes, and a revised CVT.
The maxi-scooter is equipped with a 350cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, mated to a CVT. The power output is marked at 33.5 bhp at 7,500rpm and 35Nm at 5,750rpm. BMW also offers an Automatic Stability Control (ASC) in addition to ABS.
The scooter gets a twin-disc brake setup at the front and a single disc brake setup at the rear. For suspension, there are telescopic forks at the front and a dual-shock absorber set up at the rear.
The price announcement is expected by the end of this month, and post-launch, the BMW C 400 GT will carve a niche of its own in the Indian market. The pricing is expected to be between Rs 5 and 6 lakh (ex-showroom). The upcoming maxi-scooter could be an apt choice for riders who are looking for a high-capacity touring scooter with a premium touch.
