Expect the first battery swapping stations from this partnership to come up in Bengaluru – Bounce Infinity's home turf.
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has partnered with EV brand Bounce Infinity to help the latter set up its ambitious battery swapping infrastructure in urban areas of the country. With this, Bounce Infinity aims to set up up to 3,000 battery swapping stations in the 'top 10' major metro cities – there are no details about which cities qualify as the 'top 10'.
A key highlight of Bounce's battery swapping infrastructure is that it is open to the brand's customers as well as interoperable partners – in essence, to all other OEMs that sell two- and three-wheelers equipped with battery swapping tech. At this stage, such a move is purely aimed at popularising the concept of battery swapping in India. The main idea behind it is to show that EVs can also be refuelled as quickly as conventional ICE-powered vehicles.
For the unaware, this is not Bounce's first tie-up for its battery swapping infrastructure. The brand already has multiple small-scale partners with whom it has installed hundreds of such stations in major Indian cities. Bounce claims that within 11 months, the infrastructure has already facilitated over 1.2 million battery swaps!
If you are not aware of Bounce Infinity as a brand, you can read about the launch of its first product, E1, here. A few months back, we also tested the E1 on city roads. You can read our Bounce Infinity E1 review here.
