Bajaj Freedom, the world's first CNG-powered bike has launched in India at a starting price of Rs 95,000 (ex-showroom). This unique bike is set to transform the two-wheeler market by providing a cleaner and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional petrol-powered motorcycles. In terms of environmental impact, the CNG motorcycle offers substantial benefits. The Bajaj Freedom offers a diverse colour palette with seven options, including dual-tone variants. Bookings are now open both at dealerships and online, with initial deliveries starting in Maharashtra and Gujarat. At the launch, Bajaj showcased rigorous testing results, including impact and truck-runover tests, demonstrating the CNG tank's durability and safety. Although the Bajaj Freedom doesn't have any direct rivals, it serves as a viable alternative to popular models such as the Bajaj Platina 110, the Honda Shine 100, the TVS Radeon, and the Hero Splendor Plus.
Bajaj Freedom 125: Design
The Bajaj Freedom boasts modern lighting with a round LED headlight and sharp DRLs. It has regular turn signals, hand protectors, and a switch to easily switch between petrol and CNG fuel. It also comes with stylish aluminium tank covers, a digital dashboard with Bluetooth connectivity, a raised exhaust, and a light to show when you're in neutral gear.
For handling, the CNG Bajaj uses telescopic forks in the front and a single shock in the back. The brakes are likely a disc brake up front and a drum brake in the rear, all on what are probably 17-inch alloy wheels. It also comes equipped with a single-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS).
Bajaj Freedom 125: Engine
Regarding the engine, Bajaj employs a horizontal layout engine design to accommodate both CNG and petrol tanks, optimizing space for all fuel systems and other ancillaries. The bike is powered by a 125cc engine producing 9.3bhp and 9.7Nm of torque, paired with an 5-speed gearbox. The 2kg CNG cylinder is securely positioned under the bike's flat seat, held by a tubular steel cradle frame.
