An invitation to ride the new Bajaj Dominar 250 confirms its launch in March. Expect the quarter-litre offering to make about 28 horses and be priced around Rs 1.6 lakh.
The Dominar family is about to get bigger. Bajaj Auto has sent us an invite to ride the Dominar 250 in March, confirming that the motorcycle will be launched soon. Bajaj first introduced the Dominar 400 in 2016. Although at the time the motorcycle was priced at Rs 1.36 lakh, it now demands Rs 1.90 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). The introduction of the 250cc offering should make the Dominar brand more accessible. We expect it to be priced in the Rs 1.6 lakh range.
The launch of the Dominar 250 doesn’t quite come as a surprise, especially given the spy shots that have been doing rounds on the internet. While there is no official communication from the bikemaker as yet, it is safe to assume that the Dominar 250 will be based on the KTM 250 Duke. With that in mind, expect it to produce around 28 horses and 24Nm. In terms of features, the 250cc offering is unlikely to make any compromises. It will come with upside-down forks, dual-channel ABS, and digital instrumentation. Differences from the 400 will be seen in the form of a different swing-arm, smaller tyre sizes, and, probably, smaller brakes. We will have to wait and see if Bajaj has fitted the LED headlights to the smaller Dominar 250 as well. As far as design goes, expect the Dominar 250 to look identical to its larger sibling.
The 250cc segment is heating up like never before. While KTM has already updated the 250 Duke, Suzuki brought in the Gixxer 250 last year, and Yamaha has the FZ25 on sale too. More recently, the Husqvarna brand has also been introduced with the Svartpilen 250 and Vitpilen 250.
