About a month ago, Ather Energy confirmed the launch of the family-oriented Rizta scooter on its Community Day – the same as the 6th of April 2024. While the price announcement of the upcoming scooter is yet to happen, here are some fresh details ahead of its launch in India. According to a video posted on Instagram, the long-awaited Rizta will have a big underseat storage area with a deep cavity to stow a half-face helmet, bag, and lunchbox. In addition, the smaller storage area by the seat hinge can house a purse/wallet and a few other things.
Besides, from a previous Instagram video put up by Ather, we can say that the seat is going to be wide and long enough to comfortably accommodate both the rider and pillion. Other bits are a spacious floorboard, a disc-drum braking setup, and 12-inch wheels with MRF Zapper tyres. Unlike the Ather 450X, the Rizta will feature a drum brake at the rear to help keep costs in check. As for the suspension duties, the Rizta will come with a telescopic front fork and a rear monoshock.
Ather Rizta: Powertrain
While Ather has yet to disclose technical details, the Rizta will likely get the same battery from the existing 450 series of scooters that come with two options: 2.9kWh and 3.7kWh. One can also expect the scooter to carry over a concealed belt final drive from the company's most powerful 450 Apex. In terms of performance, the Ather Rizta's hub-mounted motor is not likely to be as powerful as the Ather 450X.
For reference, the Ather 450X draws power from a 6.2kW motor linked either to a smaller 2.9kWh battery or a bigger 3.7kWh battery pack. The smaller battery yields a claimed 111km range, whereas the larger battery pack offers a 150km range on a single charge. The official 0-40km/h time is put at 3.3 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 90km/h. The pricing for the 450X starts at Rs 1.38 lakh for the 2.9kWh version and goes up to Rs 1.45 lakh for the 3.7kWh version. Prices are ex-showroom, Bengaluru.
Ather Rizta: Features
Features-wise, the Rizta will likely offer a 7.0-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation, in addition to auto-hold, an emergency stop signal, and a USB charging port.
Ather Rizta: Price, Rivals
As far as the pricing goes, the new Ather e-scooter, including the FAME 2 subsidy, is expected to cost around Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will compete against the Bajaj Chetak, the Hero Vida V1 Pro, the TVS iQube, and the Ola S1 Pro.
