The revision of the FAME II subsidy has made the Ather 450 plus and the 450X substantially more affordable.
The FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) initiative has been recently revised – the government has increased the subsidy on the electric two-wheelers. The revision helps the strongest electric-scooter player in the market – Ather Energy. The Bengaluru-based electric manufacturer has two scooters on sale – 450 Plus and 450X – both of which are now available at substantially subsidised prices.
Both the scooters have seen a price cut of Rs 14,500. The 450 Plus, the entry-level model in the Ather lineup, now retails at Rs 1.25 lakh. The Ather 450X, which is the flagship model, is now priced at Rs 1.44 lakh. Both the prices are ex-showroom, Bengaluru.
Prior to the FAME II incentive, the Ather 450 Plus retailed for Rs 1.69 lakh and the 450X cost Rs 1.88 lakh. Both the scooters have now received a total subsidy of Rs 43,500 under the FAME II policy.
The FAME II’s policy dictates that an electric scooter/motorcycle will be subsidised if it meets the following criteria; a minimum full-charge range of 80km and a top speed of 40km/hr. The Bajaj Chetak, which is a direct rival to the Ather 450 scooters, has not seen any such subsidy and continues to retail at Rs 1.44 lakh (ex-showroom).
Ather Energy has 128 fast-charging stations across 18 cities of India. The company is offering free charging facilities at its network to all two-wheeler and four-wheeler EV users until September 2021.
