Since their roll out in the market, high-end electric scooters like the Ather 450X have seen strong sales. These electric scooters are a viable alternative to the typical ICE-based scooters thanks to a combination of central and state-level subsidies. In India, Ather Energy is getting ready to broaden its product offering. The 450S, a more affordable version of the 450X, will soon be released by the EV maker. In a recent development, the '450S' name has been trademarked by Ather, preventing rivals from using the same nomenclature. Notably, the Ather 450X electric scooter has enjoyed success since its launch as a result of its features, functionality, and high level of build. The upcoming 450S e-scooter is expected to omit some of the high-tech features found in the 450X Pro Pack model.

Ather 450S Electric Scooter: What to Expect?

Ather Energy submitted a trademark application for the 450S in March-end 2023, and the application has been approved. Further, the business has registered a trademark for what seems to be the 450S logo. These two facts imply that the firm will soon add a third electric scooter to its lineup. There isn't much information available publicly about the scooter. However, the Ather 450S will likely have fewer features than the top-of-the-line 450X. By taking this course, the Bengaluru-based company will be able to price the scooter lower than the 450X and benefit from the FAME incentives. The 7-inch TFT touchscreen, auto-hold, and possibly even a riding mode will not be included. Due to being able to price the electric scooter competitively, the manufacturer will be able to capture a larger portion of the market for electric scooter sales.

The S1 Air, which has a starting price of Rs 84,999, is already available from Ola, one of Ather's main rivals in the two-wheeler EV market. As a result, the 450S should enable Ather to more effectively compete with Ola, which has recently become India's top seller of two-wheeler electric vehicles.

Ather 450X Base Variant: Price and Performance

Recently, Ather introduced a new base model of the 450X electric scooter in the nation for Rs 98,183 (ex-showroom, Delhi with FAME II and state subsidy). The new base edition of the electric scooter has fewer features and a slower charger in our market. The e-scooter is mechanically the same as before. It continues to run on the 6.4kW motor. It has a 146-kilometre driving range on a single charge. Furthermore, the scooter has a top speed of 90km/h and can accelerate from 0 to 40km/h in 3.3 seconds.

The new entry-level model and the feature-loaded ProPack model, like the engine, share the same design, structure, wheels, suspension, and colour palette. However, as previously stated, these models of the Ather 450X differ in terms of charging, warranty, and features. The new base version has no ride modes. Instead, there is a default setting that, in practice, provides acceleration and performance comparable to what the Ride mode in the scooter with the Pro Pack provides.

Ather 450X Base Variant: Charging Time and Features

The ProPack model has the same 3.7kWh battery pack as the base edition. It does, however, have a longer charging time than its more advanced counterpart. The 450X ProPack battery takes 5 hours and 40 minutes to recharge, while the base model battery takes 15 hours and 20 minutes. The use of a home charger by the base edition accounts for the significant difference in charging times between the two variants of the 450X e-scooter.

On the feature front, the new base edition has a 7-inch touchscreen display, but it is only offered in greyscale. Contrarily, the top-tier 450X ProPack model features a multi-colour display. Additionally, the 450X base version lacks connectivity features like document storage, ride statistics, smartphone pairing, OTA updates, onboard maps, and navigation, as well as push location from the Ather app and multi-stop trip planning. Lastly, the new base 450X edition lacks features like a hill assist, park assist, and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
