First showcased at the Auto Expo 2020, Piaggio India is about to commence production of the Aprilia SXR 160. It will feature a 160cc, 3 valve, fuel injected motor just like the SR 160
Aside from the updating their existing products to meet the BS6 emission norms, Piaggio hasn’t introduced a new product in the Indian market for a while now. Earlier this year at the Auto Expo 2020, the Italian marquee pulled the wraps off a new maxi-scooter – the SXR 160. The company was scheduled to bring the SXR 160 in the third quarter of the year but the launch was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. In an official statement, they have now revealed that the production at the Baramati plant will commence soon.
Aprilia claims that the SXR 160 has been designed in Italy, but developed for the Indian market. The front fascia looks inspired by the RS 660 and combined with the sharp headlights and LED DRL’s give the scooter a sporty appeal. The SXR 160 gets a large windscreen at the top, neatly crafted LED taillights, and a wide tail section. In terms of features, the SXR 160 will come fitted with a fully-digital instrument cluster, USB charging port, ABS-equipped disc brake and more.
Powering the SXR 160 will be the same 160cc three-valve motor from the SR 160. In this scooter too it is expected to make a 10.84bhp and 11.6Nm. It sits on 12-inch wheels at both ends and gets telescopic forks at the front and a adjustable shock at the rear.
Speaking about the upcoming launch, Diego Graffi, Chairman and Managing Director, Piaggio India, “With its highly innovative design, the SXR 160 is set to create a new unmatched experience of premium style, high comfort and best in class performance. To ensure that we bring this experience much closer to everyone, we are expanding our footprint of dealer network in India, by welcoming the premium mindset entrepreneurs to our most exciting dealership business model in their town.”
With the production about to start soon, expect the SXR 160 to be launched in the upcoming few weeks. Prices are likely to be in the range of Rs 1.1-1.2 lakh.
