The Aprilia SXR 160 will be powered by a 160cc engine that produces 10.8bhp and 11.6Nm. The maxi-scooter will be offered in four colour options and is expected to be launched around the Rs 1.2 lakh mark
Just a few weeks back Aprilia announced that the production of their new offering – the SXR 160, has commenced at the Bramati plant. Now, the company has started accepting bookings of the new maxi-scooter online on the brand’s India website.
Aprilia showcased the SXR 160 at the Auto Expo 2020 in February, and was scheduled to launch it around September, but delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic forced them to push the launch by a few months. The SXR 160 is powered by a 160cc three-valve fuel injected motor, same as the SR 160. In the maxi-scooter too, the engine produces 10.8bhp and 116Nm. The SXR 160 sits on 12-inch wheels at both ends, and stopping power comes from a 220mm front disc and a drum setup at the rear. Suspension duties are performed by telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Highlight features of the SXR 160 include full LED headlamps that are inspired from the RS 660, an LCD instrument cluster, USB charging port under the seat and ABS.
Aprilia will offer the SXR 160 in four colour options – blue, black, white and red. While Aprilia hasn’t announced the pricing of the SXR 160 as yet, we expect it to be around the Rs 1.2 lakh mark. The SXR 160 doesn’t quite have a competitor in India as the only other maxi scooter on sale currently is the Suzuki Burgman, which is only powered by a 125cc motor. There have been rumours of Aprilia working on a smaller SXR 125 as well, in a recent interview, Diego Graffi, CEO and MD Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd confirmed to us that it is not in the horizon as of now.
Aside from the SXR 160, Aprilia is all set to bring in the RS 660 and the Tuono 660 around mid-2021. You can read all about it here. The Italian brand may also bring in an updated iteration of the SR range in the second half of next year.
